Welcome to the updated OverPower Specials Guide (as of 1/21/99). We've updated the Specials Guide to now include Aspect cards. Because the mechanics of Aspect cards are so similar to Specials, we put them all into the same format. What we have not done is gone through all the meta rules to make certain that it says Specials/Aspects instead. We are optimistic that people using this guide will understand this and be able to make calls accordingly.

For those that are using the guide for the first time, don't be overwhelmed by what seems to be complexity. Really, it's quite simple. If you have a question about a specific card, then look at the 2 character code in the lower left hand corner of the card. Then click on the corresponding link in the table below. That page gives you the "meta rules" for that special/aspect code. in most cases, the answer to your question should be within.

While there are other ways of using this guide, we suggest starting with that method to help get you acclimated to the format.

When we realized that there were over 150 Meta Rules, we realized that we needed a method by which it would be easier for people to understand the Meta Rules. So we developed a series of Categories and flagged each Meta Rule by the Category (or Categories) it fit into.

There are three types of pages found in this guide (links to which are below).

Code Pages

• If the Special can be played offensively (on your turn).
• If the Special can be played defensively (on your opponent's turn).
• What the duration of the Special is (how long the effect of the Special lasts)
• Other Information about the Special that didn't fit into the Meta rules (when necessary).
• Which Meta Rules have been referenced by us (again, others still apply).
• A listing of all of the Specials which have this code.
• A listing of any Specials which have been miscoded regarding this code (when necessary).

Meta Rule Pages

• The Category of the Meta Rule (see below).
• The Rule itself.
• Which Special codes reference this Meta Rule.

Category Pages

• The Name of the Category.
• A listing of the Meta Rules that have been grouped under this Category.

 

Since we cannot expect people to have a connection to these pages up and running at every sanctioned event, we developed the following pages for a printable guide.

1. A listing of all code related information.
2. A listing of all of the Meta Rules (in number order).
3. A listing of all of the Categories and the Meta Rules of that Category.
