Once I
was hidden within myself
surrounded
by my shell.
My vision
limited, my movement confined,
unable
to chip away at my fragile barriers.
You stood
outside my self made prison
and saw
my spirit inside.
With gentle
patience you reached to me
and slowly
broke the boundaries away.
My wings
were laden with feathers too
heavy to
spread and catch the wind.
You helped
me stretch them to the
sun and
cast off their cumbersome burden.
Flight
did not come easy.
There were
many setbacks and failures.
With each,
you lifted me gently up
and urged
me to try again.
Soon I
was able to glide in the sky
but always
by your side.
But you
saw that I must catch the winds alone
and quietly
guided me to that journey.
The wind
often faltered and I was unsure
but still
you pointed me on
until I
could soar with ease and grace
even when
I didn’t see I was doing so.
Seeing
me as you knew I could be
you then
showed your wisdom
and taught
me again what I did not know.
That I
had healed and emerged on my own.
And so
with wisdom I could not see
you set
me on yet another course.
You taught
me to soar, set me to my flight
and then
gave me freedom to fly.
