Hesperus
from the South Valley

Once again using only the most general of maps, we were unable to locate the usual path, and headed up through these fields of very abrasive, loose rock. After crossing the shelf where conifers are growing, we went through acres of rubble on the upper slopes, aiming for that slot with some snow in it, to the right of the peak. The established path actually goes up a more gradual slope, to the left of the peak.
