Friends' and Peers' Thoughts on Big Pun

Fat Joe (Terror Squad Member)

He was a legend, not only to Latinos but hip-hop in general. He broke many barriers. I think he was the birth of that quote-unquote Latino explosion. Pun is gonna be missed. He loved his fans, and I want his fans to show a lot of support for him, give him the respect he deserves, because he definitely worked very hard to please his fans and just to make the best music possible.

Triple Seis (Terror Squad Member)

I'm kind of empty right now, but at the same time I'm kind of proud of my brother, because he affected the whole world. He made an impact on the whole world. As you can see, everybody loved him.

B-Real (Cypress Hill)

He was one of the only solo Latin rappers to gain the success that he has. I mean, there were others before him who paved the road, but he sort of opened up the door for a lot of other soloists to come in and do their thing. And he left a good impression on people, because he didn't capitalize on the fact that he was Latin and capitalize on that market. He was just an overall hip-hop head who happened to be Latin, and I think his contribution was tremendous for Latinos in hip-hop.

Jennifer Lopez (Actress, Singer)

He was a source of pride for the Latin community, a great artist, and a great person. We will miss him terribly.

Eric B (Eric B & Rakim)

He's the Jackie Robinson of Latino rappers.

Jimmy Rodriguez (Friend & owner of Jimmy's Bronx Cafe)

He was a gentle giant -- one of the nicest people you could ever meet in this world. This is so sad, just so sad,

Steve Rifkind (Chairman of Pun's label Loud Records)

Pun was a true gentleman and family man and a wonderful friend. And he was a brilliant artist. He covered every base in hip-hop: crossover, underground, urban and Latin.

Sean C (A&R exec at Loud Records)

No one wants to exploit his memory--not the label, not Fat Joe. We're just going to try to make everything good for Pun's family.

Dane Webb (Editor in chief of Rap Pages Magazine)

The death of Big Pun is a tragedy. He said it best himself: Because a man is Spanish and he's a lawyer doesn't mean he practices Latin law. He never practiced just Latin hip-hop, he practiced hip-hop. And in just hip-hop, he was a major contributor.
