sky came falling
Making quite an impression on people in the Long Island area with their powerful, emotional, heavy original music.  They are also some of the nicest guys you will ever want to meet.  I was lucky enough to get this interview with them.
TK-421: Sorry to ask the basic first question, but I am dumb and could not come up with something better.  Who does Sky Came Falling consist of and what do they do in the band?
Christian: Cameron plays guitar and screams, John plays guitar, Parker plays drums, Matt plays bass and I scream as well as write the analytical carnage...
TK-421: What do you guy’s plan on releasing in the near future?
Christian: We are going to release a 10”/cd e.p.  On Goodlife records titled “To Forever embrace the sun.”  It will hopefully be released in July.  We are going into the studio in April to record.  We also have one demo track on the Goodlife sampler volume 2 that hopefully will be out in a few weeks, and some other compilation tracks on other labels.  We have been offered to do a few, but with the CD e.p.  Coming out, we really don’t want to give out a lot of songs.
TK-421: So, how did you guys end up on Goodlife?
Christian: Well, Goodlife was always one of my favorite labels, so when the demo was released, I sent a few over to Edward.  He ended up e-mailing me back and expressing his interest in us.  We started to discuss the details of releasing a record and he asked for one track for the compilation.  With some help from Morning Again, we are just about to finish the deal.  Edward has been really supportive and we are really looking forward to releasing the record with him.
TK-421: What influence does each member of the band hold?
Cameron: I have been influenced by many great people, many of them have been wonderful T.V actors/actresses such as Wesley [from Mr. Belvadeer], Tootie [from Facts Of Life] and of course Boner [from Marilyn Manson...oops, I mean Growing Pains].  I have also been influenced by professional athletes such as the wrestling tag-team the Bushwhackers and the fabulous baseball player Jesse Orosco.  I am also heavily influenced by anyone named Bruce or Wanda.  Here are some bands that influenced me: Mind Over Matter, Snapcase, Frodus, Botch, Deadguy, Deftones, Pantera, Relentless, and many others.  I basically listen to bands that are doing something different.
Parker: As a drummer I have numerous influences.  A lot of my style comes from solo drummers such as Dennis Chambers and Terry Bozzio.  My main concern is to make sure whatever I am doing with my hands I am doing the same amount with my feet.  That was one of the most valuable lessons I was taught at a young age.  As far as bands go, I listen to Candiria, Indecision, Sons of Abraham, The Glassjaw, Watership Down, Milhouse, Cave-In, the Movie Life, and Frodus.
Clerkin: I am influenced by a variety of bands like Day Of Suffering, Botch, Focal Point, Acme, Cardiac, Grade, Pantera, Cave-In and many others...
Matt: My man Larry Calcagno, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Paul, Mind Over Matter, Coalesce, Rage Against the Machine, my father, P-nuts and Biff Big Nuts.
Christian: I am influenced by every single minute of the day.  By other individuals opinions, lyrics, music, literature, just about everything I come in contact with.  I’d say someone who had the biggest effect on me was Zack De La Roacha, from Rage Against The machine.  I had read an article with him in Anti-Matter several years’ back, and I was so impressed with how many opinions and emotions he had on so many various topics.  That had a major impact on me, to be able to express myself in that fashion.  As far as bands go, I listen to Systral, Dead Eyes Under, At the Gates, Acrid, Carol, and Morning Again.
TK-421: What do the Lyrics deal with?
Christian: The lyrics are all real personal, about events that have occurred in my life and other things I have come in contact with.  A lot of songs are about loss, such as loosing a loved one.  Each song has it’s own meaning, it would be hard to get into the description of every song.  I’d like to leave it up to each individual to decide what it’s about, to interpret the song in their own way and make it meaningful to them.  All these songs document my life somehow.
TK-421: Are their any funny stories the readers should be aware of?
Cameron: Well, there are stories about our band....  But, they are all just stories abou8t the band things that have happened to us.  I would tell them, but the would be too boring.  But, if you want a funny story not relating to the band, next time you see me ask about the poop story...
TK-421: What does the future hold for Sky Came Falling?
Cameron: umm....  I dunno.  And I don’t really want to make any predictions either.  I just want to take things as they come.  I basically want to continue to make our music, have lots of fun with it, and if we are successful....  That’s fine....  If we’re not....  That’s fine too.  But it’s all about havin' fun and makin da women yo!  But, I already “gots” my woman so I’ll just do the “having fun” thing.
TK-421: Would you like to make any closing comments?
Christian: Thanks for conducting the interview.  Thank you to anyone who listened.  You can contact us by writing to: 96 Shinnecock Ave. Massapequa, NY 11758 or by E-mailing VLSCERAL@aol.com.  “A penny for your confessions” demo tape is available for $2 ppd.  I also want to thank Ichor of the Ukase, Knives and Green Water and Dead Eyes Under.  Thanks...
