Tim Allen was actually born Timothy Alan Dick. He made up the alias "Tim Allen" because he was afraid people would think he made up the "Dick" part to be funny.

Tim was born and lived in Denver until the age of thirteen. Then he and his family moved to Detroit--a city of cars and power! Here Tim started his comedy career on a dare from a friend at a place called "Detroit's Comedy Castle" in 1979. Tim went on to do more stand-up and eventually landed two half-hour specials with Showtime: "Tim Allen: Men Are Pigs" & "Tima Allen Rewires America."

Tim once went off course selling drugs and ended up doing some time in prison over it. However, as soon as Tim got out he turned his life around and focused on being funny, and making people laugh!

Tim Allen is also now the best selling author of two books. The first being Tim Allen: Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man. In Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man Tim discuss the differences between men and women in a way that is so comical laughing out loud is inevitable. He also tells his life story in a comical way so that even his time in prison seems funny. This book was copyrighted in 1994.

The second was copyrighted in 1996 and was titled I'm Not Really Here. This book follows Tim through his mid-life crisis and how he deals with it. It also reaches into the realm of quantum physics and wonders if humans really exist after he reads an article out of a science magazine that suggests we only have a tendency to exist. Tim's second book is as much of a must-read as the first as you follow Tim through a weekend he spends alone while his wife and daughter are away.

Finally, Disney caught wind of Tim and helped him start his own show... Home Improvement. The show skyrocketed in its first year and lasted eight seasons to 1999. The show was chiefly based on Tim's stand-up routine as he was cast as a star on local tool-show named Tim Taylor. Tim Taylor's wife, Jill (Patricia Richardson), and their three boys, Brad (Zachary Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), and Mark (Taran Noah Smith) live a fairly normal life with everyday spats between parents and children and husband and wife. Whenever Tim has a problem he needs to get off his chest he talks to his good friend and neighbor Wilson (Earl Hindman). Wilson studies the philosophers and often uses their words of wisdom to help Tim deal with his situation.

On Tool-Time, Tim's show he generally makes mistakes (like gluing his head to a table) and teases his assistant Al (Richard Karn) about wearing flannel everyday and his mother's weight. Tim also uses Tool-Time to express some of his feelings. Sometimes these feelings offend Jill and then Tim has even more problems. A simple show but after watching it a few times anyone would have to agree it's hilarious. Sadly in 1999 the show's ratings began to drop, and although sad for a good family show to end, many said that it was smart for the show to end before the ratings dropped any lower.
