Borago officinalis
Borage leaves can
be used to create a tea that is good for reducing fevers
when taken hot. Borage is a diaphoretic, which means that
this tea induces sweating, thereby lowering the fever.
Borage tea also makes a good remedy for colds and flu,
especially when these infect the lungs because it also
treats coughs. The leaves and
flowers are rich in potassium and calcium and therefore are
good blood purifiers and a tonic. A borage leaf infusion is
also good for insomnia and nervous tension. The leaves can
be used in face packs for dry skin, in baths, or in a
poultice for bruises or irritated skin. Borage seeds have a
higher gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) content than the evening
primrose. Borage like many
herbs has both medicinal and culinary properties. I decided
to discuss the medicinal properties of this herb because it
is a popular herb in the kitchen and should have its
medicinal properties known.
