Library Student Assistant

My responsibilities as a student assistant in the library range from shelving material to aiding patrons with information searches to assisting the library staff with special projects. I also troubleshoot the copy machines and microfiche readers. My position also allows me to work with various computer programs and databases.

Internhip - James D. Utzinger Memorial Garden

I was responsible for irrigation, mowing, mulching and weeding in the garden. I assisted Master Gardener volunteers with tasks, such as mulching and weeding. I created permanant plant labels using an engraving machine. I created temporary plant labels (for annuals) using a Brothers Label Maker. I developed a design involving sunflowers on the top of the garden mound. I wrote several flyers concerning the various theme areas of the garden. I learned about, repaired and added onto the irrigation system. I assisted in the selection and installation of the Deer-Resistant Garden in front of the Bailey Building. I participated in the open-house and the orientation for Farm Science Review volunteer workers. I was also interviewed by Mr. Tom McNutt from News Channel 4 concerning the garden.

At the ATI library, I was responsible for everything and everyone in the library between 5pm and closing (10pm) on Mondays through Thursdays. I delegated work between myself and those working with me each night. The projects ranged from shelving books and assisting patrons with searches to preparing books from ATI to be shipped to other OSU libraries. I was responsible for sending notices to and billing patrons for over-due magazines. At ATI, I also worked with various computer programs and databases.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of the Two-Year College
I became a member of the Alpha Mu Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa in spring of 1999. As a member, I assisted with blood drives, bake sales, and other fund raising activities.

Big Wheeling Creek Volunteer Fire Department
I am a member of the BWC VFD and am active in the department whenever I am home visiting my family. I have completed basic training and am Red Cross certified in CPR and First Aid. I plan to continue my fire training as soon as possible and remain a volunteer.
