Beginning Level 1** - - Drop in's welcome anytime*
Introduction to basic steps, isolations, stretching, strengthening and centering. Class is structured for the first time student but can be very useful on a continuous basis for refinement and strength building. Basic costuming and dance history will be covered.
Beginning Level 2** - Pre Registration required - Drop in's okay*
Covers transitional steps, continued isolations, stretching, strengthening and centering. Emphasis on technique, layering upon basic moves, intro to rhythms, partnering, basic finger cymbals (optional).
Intermediate** - Referral by instructor - Pre registration required.
Emphasis on technique, advanced steps and variations, partnering & group dancing, basic choreography, zils, improvisation, more rhythms. Middle & Near East, Indian, and North African music and culture will be covered.
Advanced** - Referral by instructor - Pre registration required
Refinement of movements, zils, group choreography, rhythms and interpretations. Dancing with props (sword, candles, snakes, baskets, etc.). Endurance building.
Choreography Class: - Pre Registration required. Must be enrolled in Beg/Int level 1 or 2 concurrently. Minimum of three students must pre register, otherwise class will not be offered for that month. This is a fun class where students learn a routine and prepare for performing at Student Night (performance is optional). Part of class will involve additional costume sessions where students will construct their own costuming and learning how to achieve the Tribal look through makeup, headdress construction, and jewelry.
Tribe Ankh: - Entry into Tribe Ankh by instructor referral.
Tribe Ankh is a performing student troupe. Members of Tribe Ankh must make commitment to attend both ongoing classes (Beg level 2 or above) and the choreography class concurrently. This offers troupe members the opportunity to experience dance within a "troupe dynamic" as well as learn choreography and perform within a supportive atmosphere.
Tribe Badir Rehearsal - Referral by instructor
Invitation to join by tribe consent.
Performance Preparation - NO DROP INS please.
Focus on performance skills, stage presence, blocking, advanced improvisation.
Private Lessons - available $30.00 / hour
* To be fair to other students, please do not "drop in" to a class operating at a higher level than you are. Thanks for your understanding.
**Minimum of three students must pre register, otherwise class will not be offered for that month.

Pricing:
Per class: One hour classes are $7.00 per class (drop in) or $25/month*.
Monthly fees:
If you take two classes concurrently, the monthly fee drops to $45/month.
If you take three classes concurrently, the monthly fee drops to $65/month.
All monthly class fees are payable at the first class of the month. No refunds are given for missed classes (if purchasing by the monthly rate) without prior 24 hour notice.
Location:
Classes will be at our studio in the Rose Garden area of San Jose, location is mailed out to you upon email request. Plenty of safe parking.
Bring:
A notebook with pen, yoga mat or large towel, & bottled water to keep hydrated.
Dress:
Wear a choli top, leotard or short top, pantaloons or baggy pants you can stretch and move well in, and a hip scarf or tassel belt. Full costuming is a great way to test out new looks and see how things move (or stay put), but is totally optional. There will be a few sessions near the end of the class where we'll "test drive" headdresses', wraps, and other costume details so you can increase your skills in developing your dance image.
Because the studio has a cement floor at the moment, you must wear sturdy dance shoes!
Dance shoe:
Because of the dance surface in the studio, we are required to wear special dance shoe/sandles in the studio at all times.
Miranda sells FANTASTIC handmade sandals for dance. They're sturdy enough to wear everyday and have the perfect sole for dancing. Click on the "Shop" page for details.
