ALICE: I bet you used to lock your little pencil case up at school, right? What? Youre not coming? Oh, no, thats right, your starting Zoot classes today, arent you? You better work hard girls, get those knees hardened up for Zoot worship.
MAY: Your pathetic Alice.
ALICE: I can understand you Patsy, youre frightened, well were all frightened sweetheart. And May- I can even understand you, you only look after number one. But Salene- I expected more from you.
LUKE: You shut your mouth, or Ill shut it for you. Move them out.
ALICE: You think your taking the easy way out? Well you wrong, theyll get inside your head and youll never get them out!
PATSY: Theyre not going to brainwash us, are they?
SALENE: Dont worry Pats, were just pretending, remember?
MAY: Is that really what youre doing Salene? Pretending?
SALENE: Arent you?

Interior Rebel Hotel HQ Daytime
AMBER: This will serve as a good base. So what did you find out?
PRIDE: Theyve got most of the city under their control. Its heavy security on all the main roads and the gates, its simple, its too many of them and too few of us.
AMBER: What do you want to do Bray?
BRAY: I want to get my friends out, thats all.
AMBER: Do you remember when we took Horse and his brothers out of that fort?
PRIDE: We had a map.
AMBER: So do we. Dal knows every nook and cranny of the Mall. He helped set up the security system. Any suggestions?
DAL: The sewers are still our best bet, lets hope they havent found the entrance yet.
BRAY: Well, weve got surprise on our side, as soon as we make our move the security is going to go ballistic. Weve got one shot at this guys, so whatever we do, weve got to make it work!
PRIDE: Your right. Owl and Lynx will scout the streets; Ill take the sewers.
BRAY: Ill go with you.
AMBER: Ah no Bray. Prides got skills you dont. I know him; hes better on his own. Hey listen, be careful.

Scene 4
Exterior Outside Mall Daytime
LEX: Your not thinking of just walking in are you?
EBONY: Just look Lex! See that?
LEX: What?
EBONY: Theres a password. Thats all we need and were in. Lets go somewhere safe where no ones going to spot your ugly face.
LEX: Wait! Tai-San!

GUARD: Leave him!
TAI-SAN: Hes sick! He needs help!
GUARD: His sickness
TAI-SAN: Is that what you believe? Well I dont!

ALICE: I wouldnt do that if I were you.
TAI-SAN: I guess his sickness will just have to run its course then.

LEX: We go after them, we wait for the right moment, then we spring them!
EBONY: Forget it Lex. Forget it!
LEX: Theyve got them tied up like animals!
EBONY: I know what youre feeling, but theyre using Tai-San and the others as bate, wed be walking into a trap. If were going to make a move Lex, it has to be when the Chosen will least expect it. Ive got a plan, trust me.
LEX: You better have Ebony, and it better be a good one, cause if its not, Im going to get Tai-San out my way.
EBONY: Time to leave.

Scene 9
Interior Shrine Daytime
GUARDIAN: Look at me. Why are you here?
SALENE: I- I want to understand.
GUARDIAN: Good, and you will all understand. You, little one, tell us about your parents.
PATSY: My dad was a journalist and my mom-
GUARDIAN: No! Tell us how they died.
PATSY: I cant, I dont want to remember that!
GUARDIAN: But we want you to, tell us.
PATSY: No! I cant!
GUARDIAN: Then we will wait until you can. Listen to it. Perhaps it was her mother who got the virus first; perhaps it was her father. Perhaps they both lay together dying on the bed upstairs, but she couldnt go up there, too frightened by what she might see. Or maybe, after waiting for a week, when there was no more sound up there, she crept up those stairs alone, opened that door slowly, slowly, and saw it. You see? To be free she must remember. All of you. All of us must go back, open that door again and stare into the face of chaos! Then we can be born again. Leave her!
TRUDY: I only meant-!
GUARDIAN: To trap her in her fear? You are here to become free. You are about to be shown secrets, and you must keep them safe from the unbelievers. There is no turning back beyond this point. You must live in our way or die! Now, are there any here who do not wish to make the journey to freedom? Good. Then we can begin.

LEX: Where have you been?
EBONY: Arranging a few things.
LEX: Arent you going to let me in on it?
EBONY: Youll see. Its amazing isnt it? I mean, the Guardian has the whole city shaking at the knees. Fear is the most powerful of all tools.
LEX: Well I never would have guessed, the great Ebony, a fan of the Guardian.
EBONY: Okay, so I admire him. Hes got this place sown up. As a leader he knows exactly what hes doing. Thats why you and I are going to work together Lex.
LEX: What do you mean?
EBONY: Were going to anialate the Guardian.

Scene 11
Interior Rebel Hotel HQ Daytime
DAL: So Ryan and Salene were here. And the rest of us were here and here.
BRAY: Have they changed theyre security system?
DAL: Dont think theyd know how.
BRAY: So if we got trapped we could go out through the cage?
DAL: Yeah probably.
BRAY: And what about here Dal?
DAL: Uhm Ive got things to do Call me when you need me.
AMBER: I never thought Id be looking at it again, the Mall.
BRAY: I know. Hes a bray and capable guy, isnt he?
AMBER: Dal?
BRAY: Pride.
AMBER: Yes, he is.
BRAY: You two seem very close, Ive seen how you trust him.
AMBER: I trust Pride with my life. My sister got involved with a cult. Way back, before the virus.
BRAY: I didnt know.
AMBER: It was like shed been taken over somehow.
BRAY: Amber the Mall Rats will never surrender, I know them.
AMBER: The longer theyre in the hands of these Chosen, the more likely it is that one or more of them will go over, just like Trudy did.
BRAY: Well then we have got to get them out soon!
AMBER: And what if one of them gives the alarm?
BRAY: If you dont want to do this-?
AMBER: Im not saying that, its just like you said, weve got one chance at this, there cant be any mistakes.

Scene 12
Exterior Farm Daytime
KC: You know the problem with these Chosen?
ELLIE: Tell us Kc.
KC: They dont want to trade. No music, no booze, no nothing! Its like trying to sell to a vice squad! I mean, how am I supposed to make a living?
CLOE: Whats Tai-San doing?
KC: Shes collecting herbs, she says we need the extra vitamins.
CLOE: But what if the Guard-?
KC: Just- just ignore it. [Whistles]
TAI-SAN: Here, its parsley. Seep it in hot water and drink two glasses a day. And make sure Salene gets some too.
RYAN: Thank you Tai-San.
TAI-SAN: The herbs will help, but they can only do so much.
ALICE: What do you mean?
TAI-SAN: Well all this work, and the food they give us well start to get sick soon. [Kid coughs] I mean look, its already happening.

PRIDE: Hi Dal. You were right about the sewers, I wish you werent, but its our way in. Lets go talk to the others.

LEX: Dont you know this place? This is Dealing City. Not even the Chosen want to know about the losers here.
EBONY: Exactly why were here Lex.
LEX: Im not taking orders from you, so why dont you stop playing this little mystery game and tell me what weve come here for! What Ebony?
EBONY: Poison.

Scene 15

PRIDE: I went all the way through, theres a gate at the end, locked.
DAL: Thats what Jack and I fixed up.
PRIDE: Then you can break through it, without triggering it.
DAL: Sure.
BRAY: And there were no Guards?
PRIDE: No, perhaps its as Dal said, and they havent realised yet.
BRAY: So we can get right in there. Its our way in and our way out.
PRIDE: So, what do we do? Get a message to your friends, tell them to prepare?
AMBER: No Pride, its better if no one knows.
PRIDE: Then you realise well have to go in and find them. It will be dark, and there will be guards.
BRAY: I know.
PRIDE: Good, when do we go?
AMBER: We do it tonight.

Scene 16
Interior Pharmacy Daytime
LEX: Whats he doing back there?
EBONY: Getting the things I asked for.
LEX: Well where are you going after this?
EBONY: To the Mall, thats where the Guardians hold up.
LEX: What if hes not there?
EBONY: Whats the matter Lex? You getting nervous?
LEX: Maybe I am, maybe because this whole thing is crazy! Youre going on a suicide mission. Youll never get close enough to him to do it!
EBONY: You dont have the guts to do it, have you? Big macho Lex!
LEX: You do what you want to do, Im going back in to get Tai-San out, and anyone else I can.
EBONY: And how are you going to do that on your own Lex? It would be just as crazy. We need to join forces on this, I mean, think about it, what are the Chosen without the Guardian? Cut the head off the snake and everyone, including Tai-San will be free. Good, and the other thing?
KID: You must pierce the skin, just a scratch is enough, it will do the rest.

ALICE: You see him?
TAI-SAN: Yes.
ALICE: It gives me the creeps the way he looks at you.
TAI-SAN: Dont worry. The Guardians interest is just what Im trying to get.

AMBER: Nearly time to go then?
BRAY: Amber you should stay here.
AMBER: Dont be stupid; Im coming with you.
BRAY: You cant.
AMBER: What?
BRAY: We should talk about this. Please, just a word.

AMBER: You dont tell me what to do Bray!
BRAY: Hear me out!
AMBER: Not in front of my people!
BRAY: Listen!
AMBER: Not ever!
BRAY: Just listen to me! Okay? This is going to be dangerous!
AMBER: Dont throw me the macho line!
BRAY: And if you come with us, and we get trapped or caught, you know something happens, then theyre going to have all the leaders of the resistance wrapped up in one neat little package! And that Amber, that, is why I want you to stay behind. Okay? Be here, in case.
AMBER: All right! Ill stay!
BRAY: Amber! If I - if some of us dont come back
AMBER: What?
BRAY: I just want you to know that I - that Im glad I found you again.

EBONY: Once were in there we get into position and wait for the right time to strike.
LEX: Once youve made up your mind, you dont let anything stop you, do you?
EBONY: Its called survival Lex.
LEX: Wed have a better chance of survival if we forgot about your idea and concentrated more on mine.
EBONY: Could you stop being so negative?
LEX: Oh I know what this is all about, you want to take over that lot? Well youve done it before, havent you?
EBONY: Best to leave the thinking to me Lex, we wouldnt want you worrying yourself out before the fights even started.
LEX: Theres a few minutes to curfew, we either go in, or we get out of here. What am I supposed to do with this?
EBONY: Point it directly at them, then press record. Thats enough, now press the replay.
RECORDING GUARD: Password?
RECORDING CHOSEN: Cornbeef.
LEX: Cornbeef?
EBONY: What did you expect? Boef Bovignion? You want to carry this?
LEX: Ladies first.

ALICE: We cant just keep taking it Ellie, weve got to do something to strike back, form an escape committee or something. So, I wonder how Sunday school was?
SALENE: It was fine.
ALICE: Oh fine! Like the weathers fine, like my healths fine, like everythings just fine!
SALENE: We just went through the motions, thats all!
ALICE: So what motions were those? Did they have to stand on their heads? Did they make them do cart wheels?
SALENE: It wasnt like that.
ALICE: Tell us what it was like then?
SALENE: I cant, they told us to keep it a secret.
ELLIE: A secret?
SALENE: Yes Ellie, a secret, on pain of death.
ALICE: Well, you finally realised its not a game. I told you Salene, you cant play ball with a bunch of guys that want the whole world to be as cracked as they are.
SALENE: Its not just crack, some of it actually makes sense.
ALICE: What?
SALENE: I didnt mean it
ALICE: Yeah, but you said it!
SALENE: Look Im going to go lie down, Im really tired.
ALICE: Course, youve had a hard day, havent you?
ELLIE: Do you think shes been won over?
ALICE: I dont know.
ELLIE: What about the others?
ALICE: I dont know! Well just have to keep everything to ourselves from now on. Right?
ELLIE: You know what we need, an informer.
ALICE: What do you mean?
ELLIE: Well someone who can pretend to go along with the Chosen, but we know for sure never will.
ALICE: Well, theyre not going to buy a sudden conversion from you or me thought are they? Besides, it would be a dangerous game to play.
CLOE: Ill do it.

RYAN: Tai-San risked a lot to get that for us, and you need it more than anyone Sal! Think of the baby!
SALENE: Ill have some tomorrow, Im tired. Ryan, you dont have to worry, I know what Im doing.
RYAN: Do you?

Interior Sewers Nighttime
PRIDE: Are you ready?
BRAY: Dals just checking the alarm. I need to know something
PRIDE: What is it?
BRAY: You and Amber- Eagle, you two seemed very close.
PRIDE: I loved her from the day I first saw her. There is a custom in my tribe, two people pledge each other before the others. She and I have made that pledge together.
DAL: Its done, were ready.

GUARDIAN: Stand your men down Luke, I want to be alone.

EBONY: Thought the little fishes had got me? Wrong.
GUARDIAN: Ebony, back from the dead. Go on then, kill me. Make me remembered as a great leader. Help the cause-
EBONY: Im going to wipe out every trace of your existence, they wont even know what you looked like. Do it Lex! Do it!

TAI-SAN: Bray! Youre still alive.
BRAY: Just. Is Ebony?
TAI-SAN: Yeah, shell come around. They told us you and Dal were dead.
BRAY: Its getting so that you cant believe anyone.

TAI-SAN: Is- is Lex here?
BRAY: Pretty sure he came with Ebony. Looks like she had her own agenda, just wish wed known about it.
PRIDE: We should go, before the block the sewer entrance.
BRAY: Help me. Come with us.
TAI-SAN: Im needed here.

Scene 32
Interior Mall Entrance Nighttime
RYAN: Salene! Salene what happened? Tell me what happened? Patsy, go get May, anyone, just tell them Salene needs help. Who were those people? Where did they come from?
ALICE: Some people have all the fun! Who do we have to thank for this?
SALENE: Bray.
ALICE: Come again?
RYAN: Shes in shock.
ELLIE: Did you just say Bray?
SALENE: Bray.
KC: Bray! Cool!

Scene 33
Interior Trudys Room Nighttime
TRUDY: What is the meaning of this?
GUARDIAN: I thought you might be first to know, tonight an attempt was made on my life!
TRUDY: By whom?
GUARDIAN: By the witch who freed Bray the day you failed to light the fire at his feet, by Ebony! This is your fault!
TRUDY: I did not allow the rebels to escape, I have done everything that was asked of me!
GUARDIAN: You could have finished her long ago! Is that not why you were sent to infiltrate the heavens? To seek out the enemies of Zoot and destroy them!
TRUDY: I came to gain their confidence, to make it easier for you to take them. I couldnt hurt them, or-
GUARDIAN: Couldnt? Or Wouldnt? And now your incompetence is fuelling the enemy!
TRUDY: If I am the person you think I am, why do I spend my days teaching others the divine beliefs? If Zoot himself trusted me with his child, why now do you doubt me?
GUARDIAN: The fact remains, an attempt was made on my life, and as faltering as that may be, it means there has been a betrayal! Leave us.

TAI-SAN: If I scream my people will be here in seconds.
LEX: Dont do that. I was kinda hoping we could spend some time alone.
TAI-SAN: Lex!

Scene 35
Interior Trudys Room Nighttime
GUARDIAN: In many ways, this nights events were satisfying. The fact that people want me dead means my strategies are working. I am hated! Hate is good! Zoot would be proud of my achievements, dont you think?
TRUDY: When can I see my baby?
GUARDIAN: I asked you a question.
TRUDY: There is no doubt Zoot would approve of the way things are developing.
GUARDIAN: Thats not what I asked you! Am I not a worthy disciple of Zoot?
TRUDY: Yes-
GUARDIAN: Yes? Your enthusiasm inspires me! Inspiration is becoming increasingly difficult to encounter around certain people. The hate I saw in Ebonys eyes tonight was an inspiration, the fear I will see in the eyes of the traitor who helped her will also be an inspiration. Zoot be praised.

Scene 36
Interior Tai-Sans Room Nighttime
TAI-SAN: Do you know how much Ive missed you?
LEX: Youll have to show me.
TAI-SAN: This much.
LEX: We havent had much of a married life, have we? Weve spent what? Two nights together since our wedding.
TAI-SAN: Two of the best nights of my life.
LEX: Ill make it all up to you, you know that, dont you babe?
TAI-SAN: By the way, what were you and Ebony doing here?
LEX: Cutting off the head of the snake. I convinced her we should take out the head honcho. She thought wed never get close enough. But I knew we would. And she goes and stuffs it all up.
TAI-SAN: Well Bray didnt seem to know anything about the plan?
LEX: You know me babe, I get a notion I act.
TAI-SAN: I think thats what I like best about you.
LEX: By the way, what was the Guardian doing outside your door?
TAI-SAN: Thats where he was?
LEX: Bit late to come calling isnt it? And why would he call on you anyway?
TAI-SAN: I have no idea.
LEX: Well if he ever lays a finger on you babe-

Scene 37

BRAY: We had one chance while security was lax Ebony, and you blew it!
EBONY: Yeah well you hadnt played Tarzan wed all be able to walk in right now.
AMBER: We had planed this Ebony, right down to the last detail!
BRAY: And if you hadnt been walking around playing oh - Mission: Impossible!
EBONY: Okay, so lets say your great plan had succeeded, youve freed the gang, I mean youve even got goldie locks where you want him, what are you going to do to him, huh? What? Youre going to deny him sweets for a week?
BRAY: You are so predictable!
PRIDE: Can I say something? I think that both plans were good, they just got in the way of each other.
EBONY: Well getting in the way is something that Bray is really good at!
PRIDE: Bray could have left you where the Chosen had dropped you Ebony, its because of him that youre here now.

Scene 38
Interior Shrine Daytime
CHOSEN & LUKE: Zoot. Zoot. Zoot. Blessed are the powerful and bringers of chaos. Blessed are the merciful.
GUARDIAN: Does not the Supreme Mother teach the divine beliefs at this hour?
LUKE: She is indisposed wise one, I offered my services.
GUARDIAN: There is a traitor amongst us, one who would assist the unbelievers in seeking to remove me, disciple of the great one, and leave you without direction, this dog must be found.
MAY: Amen!
GUARDIAN: You will be expected to report any suspicions you may have, or suffer the consequences. Zoot be praised.
CHOSEN: And bring his enemies to their knees.
MAY: Zoot be praised and death to traitors!
GUARDIAN: What do you have to hide that makes you rush to condemn the actions of his traitors?
MAY: Nothing, I swear!
GUARDIAN: And why should I believe that? You are better placed than most to be the very traitor we are looking for! If I should find that it was you who aided my attack, your punishment will be so terrible that you will curse the day that saw you into this world!

BRAY: Whatever it is, you can save your breath. Youre still here!
EBONY: Make things more difficult why dont you?
BRAY: Me? Thats your speciality.
EBONY: I didnt come for a fight.
BRAY: Yeah? What you come for then? A gloat? A good sneer? A laugh? I dont know how you get your kicks these days Ebony quite frankly I dont care.
EBONY: I came to say thanks.
BRAY: Yeah? For what?
EBONY: Pulling me out.
BRAY: I would have done it for a dog, so happens it was you. I reckon that makes us even.
EBONY: Even?
BRAY: If youll excuse me, Im busy.

Scene 40
Interior Mall Entrance Daytime
ALICE: This lot are getting worse by the second. Just between you and me, do you really think Cloes going to be able to bring down the Chosen by herself?
ELLIE: Well maybe we need double trouble?
ALICE: What? You mean recruit another spy?
ELLIE: Exactly. Only dont tell Cloe, just in case. It could be someone whos already in, that way the Chosen wont suspect anything.
ALICE: I cant imagine any of that lot doing anything to help us, they only help themselves. Oh hello girls, how was story time? What was it today? Torture is good for the soul?
RYAN: Leave it Alice.
MAY: Oh look its not like we enjoy doing this, you know?
ALICE: Oh? And we do!
TAI-SAN: Please, stop arguing! Arguing will just split us, and thats exactly what they want.
ALICE: Theres already a split Tai-San!
ELLIE: Alice, Tai-Sans right.
PATSY: Im only doing this cause Im scared. Why cant we work together?
ALICE: I spy with my little eye-
ELLIE: Something beginning with 00 Patsy.
RYAN: We should be pulling together, and now we know Bray and Dal are alright.
KC: And Lex and Ebony.
RYAN: And those guys Bray had with him last night, they looked pretty useful.
TAI-SAN: If you really want some good news, I was saving it till later, but Amber- shes alive.

Scene 41
Interior Rebel Hotel HQ Daytime
BRAY: So as you may have guessed the sewers are now out as a means of entrance.
AMBER: Well what about the roof?
DAL: They would have tightened up security by now.
BRAY: Then we hit them when theyre on work detail.
PRIDE: Or under disguise as Ebony and Lex did.
BRAY: Yeah where is Lex? God! Has anybody seen him?
AMBER: Bray- uh the hill here and the trees here make good ambush points on the way to the farm. Uh the uh
BRAY: Cover-
AMBER: The cover is good, in fact the cover in excellent but we should be able to take them by surprise.

Scene 42
Exterior Farm Daytime
RYAN: Come on Kc, lets get some rations.
TAI-SAN: Hey, youll feel better when you get some food to eat.
ELLIE: Tai-San are you sure Lex was right about Amber? I mean, how?
TAI-SAN: How doesnt matter right now, its enough that its real, and that we can draw hope from it.
ALICE: How is he? Lex?
TAI-SAN: Oh, good.
ALICE: Hes taking care of himself?
TAI-SAN: Yeah, hes looking fit.
ELLIE: Well I cant wait to hear Ambers story, she sounds like a real fighter.
ALICE: What now?
CLOE: If Amber had been here we wouldnt be in this mess.
ALICE: You dont know that.
CLOE: And you dont know Amber. She would have seen right through Trudy, even before I did.
ALICE: Maybe, maybe not.
CLOE: Well at least she would have believed me.
ALICE: Nobody ever did say sorry for that, did we Cloe? Look you were right, we should have listened to you.
ELLIE: Whats this?
RYAN: All were being given.
ALICE: What?
KC: Half rations for everyone, punishment for last nights raid.

MAY: You heard him, he thinks Im the traitor!
SALENE: He didnt say that.
MAY: God! As good as! And what if he doesnt find the person that did it? He might decided to blame me anyway!
SALENE: Stop being so paranoid.
MAY: It wasnt you he pointed at in front of everybody, it was me! Besides, you didnt see his eyes.
SALENE: Calm down, he was just asserting his authority, hes used to having the last word, and when you shouted out-
MAY: I dont even know why I did it. I just thought it would ease things.
SALENE: Stop stressing yourself out, its not worth it.
MAY: What I need now is something that will show him that Im not the person that he thinks I am. Something that will take the suspicion off me.
SALENE: Like what?
MAY: I dont know, but something.

BRAY: Hey Lex! Glad you found us.
LEX: Really? You dont sound that glad.
BRAY: Yeah well you could have got it right.
