A little history on "Red & White, Community Strips." In the beginning of Boy Scouts of America, every community in the U.S. had a community strip like the one shown above. These were sewn on the top of the left Boy Scout uniform sleeve. Latter community strips were replaced (around 1980) by a "Council Shoulder Patch" (CSP), a Council by the way covers many communities. This NEW CSP change cut down on the number of different patches that had to be manufactured and that a council had to keep in stock for all their members. Now a council with many communities only has to stock one patch for everyoen in their area. Today, in our 6 New England states, there are 22 Boy Scout Councils that have CSPs. Just imagine how many different Community Strips just these 22 CSPs replace.
