It is often
required to verify the internal condition of the pipe visually. This may be to
either check defects which have been indicated by automated inspection equipment
or just to check condition of the internal Plastic Coating.

Tuboscope was the first company in the world to develop such an equipment. The equipment knows as a Boroscope consists of high resolution prismatic antigmatic lenses mounted in a extensible aluminium telescopic frame. The tube frame consists of a series of lenses and mirrors and is focusable at a maximum distance of 20 Feet. A high wattage halogen lamp is mounted at the end to provide illumination in the viewing area. This inspection is generally carried out in Indonesia to verify the integrity of Internal Plastic Coating of drill strings.
