After tool joints are
attached to drill pipes, the flush hardfacing
procedure is done at strategic places
around the world.
Standard procedures begin
with buffing the surface to remove
oxidation and rust-proofing compounds. The box
OD and taped shoulder of each tool
joint is then recessed to a precise
depth. Constant cooling during this machining
procedure assures that the internal plastic
coating is not damaged.
Recessing and Flush hardfacing
of new tool joints is also available
in pipe yards with Tuboscope's Mobile
equipment.
