1980 Mustang Ghia

Well the history is still being figured out but here is what I can decipher. I am the fourth owner of this butifull car, it originally cam with the cheap Ghia package. This "Ghia" package being leather seats and trim, and outer fender bumper striping. When I received the car the leather was starting to crack at the corners and was alreaady shrinking, theses seats soon got pulled out by me and replaced with 84 or so LX seats (in better shape). Anyway this car was also just a staight four popper, I believe that the 2nd owner received the car still stock and then soon decided that the four popper was not enough, and decided to put a turbo setup into it after finding a donner cobra or pacecar. He then put the intake setup onto the stock four cylinder and then put the springs, sway bars, and TRX rims and tires on it. He then could not figure out how the emmissions and wires hooked up along with a minor problem with the turbo and then sold it.
The turbo had received a bolt thru the intake, where the bolt scratched the fragil alluminum and bent the blades, stoping the turbo dead in its path. The next bought it and thought it would be an easy fix, they could not fix nor figure it out and soon sold it to me for $300. Now here is the catch I was only 15 and just starting to get my permit the next school year, I new absolutely NOTHING about cars but still more than the average person that doesn’t know where the tires are. My dad told me to buy this car also thinking that it would be a cheap and easy fix. The decision was made to fix it back up! I first began with looking the car over while I waited for my Ford manuals to come in. I then pulled out the vacume cleaner and cleaning supplies and started to clean the car. Eventually the carb had to come off and be rebuilt, but that did not fix the problem. Keep in mind I have no knowledge of this car let alone a four popper with a turbo on the side. Some time after, the turbo came off and that was designated the problem, considering that we found a bolt lodged in the turbo, keeping the air from entering the motor. "Ok no problem" we thought, "new turbo and it will be on the road", NOT! Turbos were so hard to find and when we finally did very expensive $$$$$ . My dad ended going towards Portland and went to a junk yard and found another turbo, this one was brought back to home where I tore into both turbos not knowing what the parts really do and how they work! The two were asembled as one to make one functional turbo.
The car STARTS! Finally about 3 months before scholl was out. My dad started driving it to work and back considering that I still did not have my license because my dad would not take me down to take the drivers test (I think he did not want me to drive, but that is a diff. Story). Once on the road we noticed that if you tried to step on the gas the car would sneez really hard, as if aplying the brakes for an emergency stop, eventually this problem was solved by disconnecting the timing advance. I got to drive it at about 3 weeks before school started ( I was now a late 16) Both me and my dad noticed that it started to consume oil a lot and decided it was time to rebuild the motor after trying to fix the possible problem by replacing the valve keepers. I was pushing time the car was up and running a little after school had started and used my neighbors Hornet to get me around (as I was no longer going to ride the bus) untill then. I started driving my car again and it took me no longer than three weeks to brak something else, one day after school I decided to see what the car could do and took it on the backk roads behind my house. On the way back I punched the pedal to the floor, and got a nice kick out of the carbut soon had to slow back down, Glancing in my mirrors I noticed a big cloud of black smoke. L L I then pulled into my house and stood back from the car as I observed the thick cloud come out of my 2 1/4 exauhst, quickly I turned the car off and went next door to get my neighbor. He thought I was joking about blowing my car up, I was not! We both stepped out side and I started the car up for him, as he stood back in amaysment at the once again decapasatated car. I then spent somewhere from two to four weeks taking out the turbo and replacing it with a newly rebuilt one. The company had told us that it was not balenced proper and the bearings had been destroyed. Oops, we never did balance the turbo nor even ponder it! I then drove it for about 3/4 of a year and then pulled the turbo again to have it checked while reinstalling some gaskets on the intake. The Turbo shop said that this one was also no good now and said that it was our fault and not warrantee it. L not having the 500 plus dollars to get it rebuilt again I waited and checked into dropping a V8 in, but realized that it will still be cheaper to replace the turbo. At this point I was very much mad with this company. I reaserched turbo rebuilders and found Evergreen Turbo The cheapest and most freindliest turbo rebuilder I found.
