Tarkan does his military service

Every turkish citizen must do the compulsory military service. Tarkan should also do it, but he didn´t had the time (it lasts about 18 months). Because he refused to do the military service, he couldn´t return to his country without being put into prison.

He was lucky, because a new law was created in which turkish men can pay a fee and reduce the period of military service to one month. It was then that Tarkan returned to Turkey in January 2000 to make a concert, visit his family (which he hadn´t seen in a while), and present himself before the turkish army.

The day of the concert, which took place in Istanbul, he cut his hair military style, to share with his fans the beginning of his military duties. The next day, he presented before the army, becoming completely isolated from the world. He was sent to a campsite far away and near the kurdish guerrilla. It was a place very dangerous, anyone who dared to exit the campsite without authorization, could be killed. Poor Tarkan, why they had to send him to a place like that!

In the camp he was treated like any soldier, no privileges, working from dawn till dusk. He was in total seclusion, in total isolation; he couldn't receive neither visits nor telephone calls during that month.

Universal Music had planned to send him to Latin America during the beginning of the year 2000, and was trying to confirm that visit soon. Since Tarkan's manager wanted to inform the singer and confirm that as soon as possible, he sent a person to the military camp to tell him everthing. This person was arrested by the military authorities for breaking Tarkan's isolation. So Tarkan continued there without knowing he would travel to Latin America.

On February 14, 2000 Tarkan ended his military service, and he was released. He began to prepare his visit to our beautiful Latin America (although he only visited Mexico).
