Tarkan returns to Europe
I took this interview
from the Tarkan 2000 site. There they say it
appeared in a turkish newspaper, based on an interview that
appeared in Bravo Magazine (Germany) in April 2000. But if you
want to read the complete interview (missing paragraphs and
photos), you should go to Marleen's Tarkanplace.

-Have
military service made any change on you?
-It didn't made any change but helped me to find out myself. I
have noticed that I couldn't see some important things while
living under the bright neons of showbussiness world. I have
stayed alone with myself during military service and searched the
answers of some important questions.
-Have you
got any private thing beside you?
-I have got my tootbrush, my underwear and a book called 'Live
the Moment' that told about Zen philosophy. You know, Zen is the
Japanese version of Buddhism and has only one philosophy: Live
the Moment. I love the books that told about different religions
of the world. That kind of books provides me power and silence.
-Which were
the challenges of the military service in Turkey?
-Military training on the snow and ice to 6.00 pm from 6.00 am.
every day. I remember that my feet are frozen. I have to wear
long style of undershorts and sweat pants to defend myself
against terrible cold weather. Naturally I have to wear my
military uniform too. I also remember very well that my clothes
had been wet while we were jogging under the snowfalls.
-Have you
obliged to use and shoot with weapons?
-Yes. I might say that I was very good on shooting. It was
ordered to hit the target three bullet in 30 seconds by our
commanders and I have even succeed this difficult duty.
-Do you own
any weapon?
-No. I'm against all kinds of terror and violence.
-Have you
meet new friends at the military barracks?
-Yes. Their names were Erol, Mehmet, Esat and Ali and no one of
them are celebrities. Just ordinary people. For example Erol was
a police officer. He told me about his sad life story at nights.
His fiancee named Senay has promised him to wait until his
military service is over. But she has left Erol for a wealthy
man. Erol was crying every night and I have struggled to comfort
him a little. Since I have never been tied to a woman, I might
say that it was difficult to understand Erol's feelings for me.
-What did
you do after military service in Turkey?
-I have done everything to amuse myself. I have wandered the
night clubs of Istanbul with friends. Then I have joined the
studio works for the song named 'You're Different' that I have
given to a singer friend named Levent Yuksel. Then I have return
back to New York to prepare myself for new album.
-What about
your days in States?
-I have been waking up at 5.30 am on mornings. (Joke). Normally I
wake up at 9.00 am and prepare breakfast. Then I go to the
fitness-club. Sometimes I prefer jogging in Central Park. You
might find me at the studio in the afternoons.
-Would you
continue living in New York or would you return back to Turkey?
-I love New York. I'm going to keep my loft in Manhattan. But I
am indeed looking for a new home in Europe, probably in southern
France or Paris.
