Exclusive from Turkey, Tarkan talks about his new album "Come Closer", a possible visit to Mexico, and a duet with Shakira.

Mexico City, México, February 28, 2006 - His name maybe won't say anything to some people, but his song "Simarik" (The Kiss) has allowed this turkish singer to stay in the musical memory of many people. Now he's back to launch his album "Come Closer" and gives EsMas.com an exclusive interview from Turkey.

Although he has released many records and he is a popular musical star in Turkey and some european countries, Tarkan still conquers new audiences, therefore he is releasing Come Closer, his first English album.

“It's a dream come true to me, a dream I've been caressing for many years, and now I'm seeing the results, and I'm very happy to have made it", says Tarkan.

The mexican audiences remember him with the song "Simarik" (The Kiss), the record sold more than 200 thousand copies in Mexico.

“Maybe I was absent from Mexico since "Simarik", but I've been very busy making new songs, and now I want to show you “Come Closer”, my first English album”.

For Tarkan, the English album is a dream come true: he considers himself a perfectionist, so he took care of every detail, he's even its executive producer and worked with Shakira's and Carlos Santana's producers.

THE LANGUAGE, A CHALLENGE

The biggest challenge with Come Closer was the language, but other things too:

"Besides language, the ultimate challenge is to reach new audiences, because I'm combining turkish rythms with modern tunes, the challenge is to make them like it, but finally, I am this way, I can't deny my essence and my roots so I show this in my music, and I feel proud for it. I hope people like it too."

“In North America..., well, I hope they like it because it's a very different thing from what they usually listen to."

“I'm sure that it will be a success in Latin America, our roots, music, even dance movements are similar, so I'm sure you're going to like it. I'm sure that I will make it", he declares confidently.

The green-eyed singer has dedicated so much time to each of the album's songs, that he can't choose a favorite between the 15 tracks, because all of them bring him good memories and he has a very special affection for each one.

“Is this the best album of my entire career? Definitely! Of course I consider it my most important album, because in this album I fulfill all my dreams, I hope it works because I've made it with all my heart”.

MORE DREAMS TO COME TRUE

Tarkan will visit Mexico in 2006 to present his music to the mexican audience and thank them for their support despite the fact that he hasn't returned since 2000. There is a possibility he will make a concert tour but he won't reveal any details because it's a "surprise".

About duets in his career, Tarkan comments:

“I havn't recorded any duet, but there is an important collaboration from one of Fugees members in Come Closer, where he adds some rap to one of my songs, and I think it works great.

-Are there any plans to make something with any latin artist, Shakira maybe?
Definitely, we are already working in that possibility, because Shakira and I work together with the same producers, and we are considering an approach, something very interesting can turn out from that combination. I love her work.

-Someone else that you admire in the music world?
Well, I admire a lot of people, and I listen to any kind of music, even if you don't believe it, I listen a lot to rock music, and I love bands like U2 and many others.

We will listen to "Bounce" very soon, Tarkan's first single, as well as other English songs, with the samy "Simarik" rythm that put us dancing, but meanwhile, the singer says goodbye in this way:

“An apology for being "absent" for a long time, sometimes it doesn't depend on the artist, I've been continuing making things and I know you remember me because of Simarik, but very soon I'll be coming closer to the latin audiences to present Come Closer, a kiss for all".
