Tarkan's New Album
I wrote this article from the news published in turkish websites Tarkan 2000 and Tarkan2001, and in Tarkan's Internet Fanclub.
Tarkan is about to fulfill his wish of releasing his new album. The album's preparations, which the singer has called his "favorite", was carried out in the United States, France, Egypt and Turkey. Tarkan has traveled around the world for this album. First he went to Egypt to make the violin recordings, then he arrived in Turkey for a 5 day visit, to record the live instruments and backing vocals for his songs. When Tarkan returned to Istanbul from Egypt, he continued working in his album. The lyrics for his new song "Yasaksiz Sevis" (Make love without any limits) were written by famous turkish songwriter Aysel Gürel. "Tarkan's new album will be released like a bomb. I have written the lyrics of 'Yasaksiz Sevis' for him. This album will be definitely successful!" said Aysel Gürel, who cut her vacation and came to Istanbul from Bodrum (a holiday center at the Mediterranean coast of Turkey) by request of Tarkan. "No vacation is more important than Tarkan", she said. "We've worked together and have come up with a spectacular song". Tarkan said then that the preparations of his new album would take another 2 months. "I think this album will be released on November 2000. This album will be more global than the previous ones. I'm sure that my fans will fancy my new album." Nevertheless, his new album will not come out until the first months of 2001. Tarkan then flew from Istanbul, Turkey to Nice, France by THY (Turkish Airlines). In Istanbul airport, before taking his flight, he said he would stay two months in Nice, working in the recording studio. He also added that his new album would be wonderful and that he would return to Turkey "like a bomb" following the release of his new album. Tarkan had begun preparations for his new album six months after releasing "Ölürüm Sana". He's been very excited about it. He made the first demo recordings in Boston. For two months, he and Ozan Çolakoğlu listened and amended the arrangements. After that they returned to Turkey to fulfill their military service. After finishing the military service, they worked for three months on the general concept of the album in a professional studio in New York. Towards the end of the cut of the second demo recordings, Tarkan and his crew went to Nice, France. The reason for this journey: "To remove ourselves from the noise and hubbub of New York, we wanted to move to more peaceful surroundings. Once in the natural surroundings of Nice, we worked in a studio with good acoustics," he revealed. In Nice, Tarkan worked for a few months, without revealing the place he was working in. But turkish magazine Kiss discovered his secret recording studio base, Tarkan's "shelter", publishing its photos, although Tarkan didn't want anyone to learn the studio's location. The studio is located in the outskirts of Nice, it is called Miraval Studios. After completing the recordings there, he flew to Los Angeles and started the mixing works, working side by side with Brad Gilber, who had done mixing works for Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin. Tarkan's new album's title will be "Benim Favorim" (My Favorite) and its release will be conducted according a pre-planned schedule. All mixing operations will be completed in January and this album will be released on March 15, 2001. This date is the Sacrifice Feast Days Holiday in Turkey. It lasts four days and look like Christmas or Easter Days in Christian world. Tarkan has been working very hard so he could be able to release his album by January 2001, however, this seems unlikely, since there are still some details that must be completed first. Tarkan is also preparing a new video, in which he appears next to Yasemin Kozanoglu, who is one of Turkey's most popular female stars. The album was first scheduled to be released towards the end of December 2000. But Tarkan wants to deliver a great album, so he's been a little fussy about it, rearranging some of the tunes he didn't like much. Tarkan is very excited about this new album because it will be released in 44 countries at the same time. The recordings have been finished, but now, they must complete the album's mixing, which is currently done in New York. If he's to do any concerts, he'll perform them after releasing his new album, that is, after March 2001. However, he'll probably begin by making concerts in Turkey, so it seems to be it'll be a long time before he returns to Latin America.
