This article was
published in a french magazine in October 1999. Thanks a lot to
Sabrina, from France, for sharing it with us.
Poor
reporters! Always searching for questions to ask your idols. This
month, it's up to luck, since it's Tarkan himself who picked at
random in our "curious box". At the end: a photo
interview which makes you discover the frenzied sides of his
personality.
-If
you would change something in your physical appearance, what
would it be?
-I
would like to be taller because I only measure 1.72m. When I was
a teenager, it mixed me up, but today, I comfort myself by
thinking of Marylin Monroe and Tom Cruise. Their short height
didn't prevent them to become stars.
-When
did you cry for the last time?
-Two
days ago...but don't ask me why! In fact, I am really sensitive
and I often cry.
-The
three things which drive you happy.
-Health.
Since I had asthma 5 years ago, I know how precious it is. Money,
cause it drives free, and love, of
course!
-Would
you dare to show us the picture you have on your papers?
[He
laughs and takes his passport out of his pocket. The photo is
superb!]
-What
seems mad to you?
-When
I see some girls fainting during my concerts. It's hard for me to
understand.
-To
seduce, what do you do?
-I
speak with the eyes. I look deeply into my partner's eyes, and
well, all is said.
-How
is your home like?
-I
have just bought a loft in New York and it's a mix between old
and modern style. I have windows a little bit opaque, but they
allow me to see the town. The decoration is purified and
practical. There are no useless objects, and most things can be
folded to free space.
-Which
is the question you refuse to answer?
-[He
jokes] This one, exactly.
-How
much should you be paid so you would agree to photo shoot naked?
-It
doesn't has anything to do with money, unless you give me a big
check for a good cause, a charity. To be photographed naked, I
would do it without problems if it has an artistic approach,
'cause my nakedness doesn't make me feel uncomfortable. Besides,
I don't tell more, but the next summer, I am likely to amaze
you...
-What
drives you angry?
-War.
When I see it on TV or in some magazines, it disgusts me and I
have tears at my eyes. I find this so stupid that I loose all the
respect for the human being.
-Can
you empty your pockets?
-It
doesn't matter [he laughs]...because I have nothing in! On the
other hand I have always with me a little blue stone called
Boncuk in Turkey and which keeps away bad things.
-What
did you eat for breakfast?
-A
panini at 2:00 pm cause I couldn't eat this morning. Anyway, I am
never really angry by this, though I adore eating. I am a glutton
and I think that people who are this way are those who love
deeply life. I distrust those who eat three peas and that's it!
-Do
you smoke?
-I
take a cigarette once a week, just only one! I like the feeling
but I hate the gesture of smoking. I find that
ugly. Teenager, I used to smoke much more than now. To do as the
others, of course...it's stupid!
-Are
you mixed up?
-Everybody
is, I think. Before, I behaved very bad, I was all bent
down, withdrawn, because I had family problems which didn't make
me a happy boy. One day, I saw a broadcast of one of my concerts
and I realized I didn't give a good image of me. I didn't sing as
a free person, one who feels at ease. Then, I decided to change
and for this I learned to love myself more. Try, you'll be
surprised to see how it works...[smiles]
-Can
you give us a lock of your hairs?
-If
you give me a pair of scissors, I'll do it right now [shouts of
his acquaintances!]. Just a little bit? [Answer of his press
attaché: "Nooooo!!!"]
-Which
sentence do you refuse to hear?
-"Are
you gay?". I wonder why people should be concerned about it!
I've been already asked this question a lot before, but I refuse
to speak about my private life.
-Do
you believe in life after death?
-I'm
not so sure...God, spirituality...I ask myself a lot of questions
about this. Right now, I would believe in it, but then I could
change my mind. Maybe because I'm Libra: I hesitate!
Short info:
This
is it! Tarkan succeeded to resolve his problem with the
turkish authorities: a new law allows him to do his
military service in one month and a half instead of the 2
years required before. He will be in the army from
February to mid-March.
Whereas
"Bu Gece" is always in the hit charts, our cool
singer releases another single "Ölürüm
Sana".
He's
planning a new turkish album for the 2000 summer.
