The Pepsi Ads
Thanks a lot to my turkish friend Ali Yildirim for telling me about Tarkan's Pepsi campaign. ***
The first ad released on turkish tv is like this: It begins in 1989 with Tarkan as a schoolboy sitting at a café drinking some Pepsi, with his school friends, when a gypsy fortune teller comes over to Tarkan and asks to look into his glass full of Pepsi to see into his future. Then as she speaks there is a flashforward of the future as she tells Tarkan that he will become famous. Just as she continues, the vision stops because Tarkan has drained the glass of Pepsi with his straw. Then he gives a knowing smile to the gypsy and says "Well, what then?" The second ad is about a sweepstakes in Turkey, where you collect 50 Pepsi caps, so you can enter a contest and be one of the 50 winners to be invited to a private party with Tarkan. Now that Tarkan is Pepsi's image in Turkey, he has recorded some ads for the soft-drink company. They were recorded in Australia, and they will only be shown in turkish television.
