Tarkan Adventures in Russia
Thanks a lot to Natasha (Russia) for sending me this article, which appeared in russian magazine Cool in the summer of 1999.
The popular singer Tarkan has been in Russia twice. And this time it turned around with some accidents. First of all he missed four trips to Moscow, then he lost all his clothes...and then he ran along Tverskaya Street, chased by fans! On the way to Moscow, Tarkan got from one absurd incident to another.
THE TRIP ON A PRIVATE PLANE It seemed that the problem was solved, but it wasn't so. It turned around that the next plane to Moscow would only be available late in the evening. And at that time the concert would be going on. Tarkan could't let down his fans, so he ordered a charter flight, that
costed him $25,000! But the strip of bad luck wasn't finished yet: the Turkish star lost all his clothes...He The singer was still standing without trousers in the middle of his room 15 minutes before the beginning of the concert, the whole army of tailors fussing around him. It is good that he reached the Kremlin (where the main concert hall is located) without any other incidents. In spite of all problems, Tarkan did a great work at this concert as usual. It seemed that there was no one in the concert hall who wasn't touched by the spirited and sensual Tarkan's voice. Tarkan also confessed that he liked the concert immensely. However, after this performance he thought a lot about singing in English, because he noticed it's very important for him that people could understand his song's lyrics. It's hard to call his staying in Moscow average. The only thing that
he did as all foreigners usually do was buying Russian Vodka, matryoshky
(russian folk toy) and ushanka(russian folk cap).
RUNNING ALONG TVERSKAYA STREET We didn't expect Tarkan not to behave like the world-wide famous star he is. For example, Tarkan, who can't live without exercising everyday, wasn't very upset because the hotel didn't have a sport hall. To everybody's surprise he declared that he would better make a sprint along Moscow streets... And he did it. But when he had ran about 200 meters, he noticed that the group of bodyguards was diluted among the fans, and a minute later the whole crowd of screaming girls was chasing Tarkan along Tverskaya Street. He was amused with it because it reminded him the shootings of the Simarik video.

Nevertheless, Tarkan, reaching the subway, had to stop to sign autographs for all the fans who wished one. Then Tarkan visited Lenin Hills (one of the most beautiful places, also called Vorobyovskiye Hills), to ride a horse. But he forgot to pay the money for it because of the next invasion of fans following him. However, it seems they forgave him.

For example, in the Hamburg hotel, where he stayed before leaving for Moscow,
he locked all the necessary documents in a safe. But early in the morning
when it was time to get ready for the trip, he tried to get them out of the safe, to no avail: it was stuck. After missing four trips to Moscow, he succeded in getting his things from the safe. What a strong thing these German safes are!
had to buy new clothes straight in the airport so that he could give the concert. Unfortunately all the clothes were too big to miniature Tarkan. So a tailor promised to do all the necessary things to make the suit fit him. But she overdid it. When Tarkan left his room and appeared in the hall, his trousers came apart straight at his buttocks!
