Interview - Estudio 7

Thanks to our mexican friend Jallet, for sharing this interview with us, which was broadcasted on TV Azteca's "Estudio 7" on March 15, 2000. There Tarkan sang first and then he was interviewed by Alfonso "Poncho" De Anda.

-How are you?
-I'm great.

-We have lots of questions for you. The first one, well, many people ask what does your song means, it's a song famous all over the world, everyone dances to it, it's a word so successful but nobody knows what it means in turkish. Tell us.
-Well, first of all, Simarik doesn't mean kiss [he looks thoughtful]. It means, in english, someone who is a pain in the neck [risas]. It's a song that talks about a girl who is so difficult, spoilt, very well dressed, very attractive; well, I try to get her, and it's painful for me because I can't get a hold of her. If I had the chance, I would kiss her, of course.

-And, it's a fun song, so exciting, that, I must tell you, in Mexico when you go to any club, everyone sings it...I don't speak turkish but I have my own version of the song [here the host began singing and Tarkan only laughed], everyone begins singing it as good as they can, because everyone knows the kiss part, but no one in Mexico understand the meaning, so we think the song is about a kiss.
-Of course, in Europe people calls it "The kiss song", I am the kiss man.

-You're a very talented artist, in fact you began your career and began to making yourself known to the world in Europe, isn't it?
-Yes, it's true, my career began in Turkey in 1992 and I've been in showbusiness for...well, for a long time.

-Do you have four albums?
-In fact I have three and the fourth is a compilation of my best songs, this is the album which I am promoting now. I have visited several countries, Germany, Paris, etc. and now I'm in Mexico and I'm so surprised, I haven't recovered from the shock, I'm crazy because of the love of the mexican audience. Now I'm here with all of you, beautiful people.
