Turkey celebrates the World Cup
This article was written based on informations published by Reuters, TarkanFanCenter and Pepsi Turkey.
After an absence of almost half a century, Turkey's national soccer team made it to the Korea-Japan World Cup, which took place last June in those two asian countries. In spite of the forecasts, which predicted the team would have an average performance, the turkish players showed an excellent team work and skills that allowed the team to survive round after round. In Turkey, everything was related to the World Cup. To support the turkish team, Tarkan recorded a special song: "Bir Oluruz Yoluna" ("Together for You"), based on the music of "Taş" (from his Karma album). The Turkish Soccer Federation selected "Bir Oluruz Yoluna" as the official song for the turkish team. As soon as it was recorded, it could be heard everywhere, and it sold quickly in music stores. Pepsi Turkey is the official sponsor of the turkish team. And since they are Tarkan's sponsor as well, it was Tarkan who appeared in the ads to support the team, with the song background being "Bir Oluruz Yoluna". There was also a Pepsi sweepstakes where the winner would travel to Korea with Tarkan and they would be together in Brazil-Turkey match. Here are the pics of Tarkan in Korea (as they were published in TarkanFanCenter and Pepsi Turkey). The turkish team arrived to semifinals, and then it fought for the third place with Korea. To obtain the third place in the World Cup was a great honor for the turks, especially after the great game they showed in all their matches. Players like Hakan Sukur, Ilhan Mansiz, Umit Davala, Fatih Akyel, Rustu, all performed at their best to accomplish this and make the whole turkish nation proud. In Turkey it was complete happiness, it brought a smile to a country suffering a severe economic crisis. When the players arrived to Istanbul on June 30, they were welcomed with a cheering crowd, from the airport and into the streets. After a three hour drive in Istanbul, they reached Taksim square, the biggest square in the city. A lights and fireworks show opened Tarkan's appearance. Tarkan sang "Bir Oluruz Yoluna" together with the players on stage, to celebrate the victory of a nation.
