Turkish pop star Tarkan arrived Baku early Thursday to give a gala concert on the occasion of the Day of Republic (May 28), at the Azeri capital's main stadium named after Tofig Bahramov.
Surrounded by bodyguards at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Tarkan said he had received invitations from Azerbaijan several times before, but that he could not visit Baku because of problems relating to organization.
The Azeri pop star, Zulfiyye Knanbabayeva, will also perform together with Tarkan in the concert. Tarkan is planning to leave Baku the day after.
Tarkan is expected to be accompanied with a 60-people-strong delegation at the event to be organized by Azercell Telecom JV at the Tofig Bayramov Republican Stadium on May 27.
To provide its subscribers with an opportunity to attend the show, Azercell Telecom started a gift campaign entitled "Concert dedicated to the Day of Republic" on April 21.
The campaign to last till May 27 is being held as an instant lottery entitled "Tarkan sings for you at the T. Bahramov Republican Stadium on May 27". 50,000-manat SimSim and 100,000-manat payment cards will be entered into the lottery, according to Assa-Irada.
Every 50th Azercell subscriber sending a short SMS message reading "Tarkan" (for 'Nokia' brand telephones) and TarkanS ('Siemens' brand telephones) to the designated '6969' phone number from April 21 till May 25, received an invitation to the concert.
Subscribers also had a chance to attend the event through the "Tarkanomania" radio contest, as the first four subscribers sending the quickest reply to a question asked were awarded invitations.
Azercell Telecom General Director Sardar Canogullari told a news conference on Tuesday that 11,500 SimSim and 1,000 Azercell subscribers have an opportunity of getting such invitations.
The law-enforcement and professional security officers will ensure security at the event to be attended by up to 40,000 people.
The company has requested Mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov for assistance in providing transportation for the people returning home after the concert to last till mid-night.

Azercell Telecom, acting as telecommunications sponsor of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Team, will also present keepsakes and awards to the team members and a prize to its 1,000,000th subscriber during the event.
