This Tortuga Memorial Plaque hangs "The Memorial Plaque Wall" of the Heritage Center and was paid for by donations from the Tortuga Association members.

It is a Silver aloy plate, 7 x 3 3/4 with black filled lettering accommodating an inscriptions. Minimum donation: $2,500. The Commemorative Plaque provides the USS Tortuga LSD-26 shipmates with a permanent memorial that will be displayed publicly and viewed by thousands of visitors, including veterans, families and friends, tourists and school children for many years to come.

The Tortuga Plaque is now permentally on the wall of
The US Navy Memorial foundation in Washington DC.
The picture above was sent to Jack Hammond by Cathy Baker.
Cathy is married to retired "Rear Admiral Carl (Doc) Baker"
who served on the Tortuga in W.W.II.
Thank you Cathy for sending the picture and also for contacting the
Memorial Foundation regarding the status of the plaque.
Carl & Cathy attend the reunions regularly and
both are a great asset to the Association.
