All the turtles on this page are in the family Emydidae.
They include many of the most popular water turtles found in North America.

See pictures of baby turtles on the Baby Turtle Pictures page.

There is one species of pond slider, Trachemys scripta, with many subspecies.
The three subspecies found in the United States are:
Yellow-bellied slider - Trachemys s. scripta
Red-eared slider - Trachemys s. elegans
and Cumberland slider - Trachemys s. troosti

There is also the Big Ben slider, Trachemys gaigeae.

The red-eared sliders are very popular with breeders who have produced many
interesting and beautiful color variations.

Patches was run over by an automobile and suffered numerous breaks to his carapace and both bridges. He was turned over to a wildlife rescue organization who took him to a vet who wired and cemented him together. After his recuperation, we were asked to take him in since he is a non-native species in Pennsylvania who could not be released locally. We were happy to have him join the TurtleTails.com family. He is understandably very shy and retiring. He is also a very handsome and colorful turtle.
