SPRINGFIELD
GOVERNMENT ARSENAL

HISTORY

These will be "Government made" weapons. In other words manufactured by the "lowest" bidder. They were stamped either Springfield or Harper's Ferry according to where they were inspected or assembled which is most of what happened at both arsenals. Actually a few weapons were manufactured at both arsenals. These were sample guns or pre-poduction and were used as a benchmark by inspectors. These weapons if found will be in un-issued condition and have "Model" or "M" present on almost every part and additionally will usually have matching serial numbers. Unlike the issue weapons that have undergone many changes in some cases, and will carry many numbers and dates.
