Sambirano Mouse Lemur (Microcebus sambiranensis)


MORPHOLOGY:
The Sambirano mouse lemur has long, dense dorsal pelage that is bicolored cinnamon rufous and cinnamon (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The middorsal stripe is amber in color (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The midventral are of this species is chamois in color while the flanks are a mixture of pale chamois and light pale neutral gray (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The dorsal and ventral underfur is neutral gray in color (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The tail of this species has long, dense pelage that has an amber color dorsally and yellow ochre ventrally on the proximal two-thirds and the distal third being bicolored dorsally raw umber and sayal brown and bicolored ventrally chamois and pale neutral gray (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The crown and ears of the Sambirano mouse lemur are amber in color (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). This species has a dark orbital ring (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The area between the eyes is cinnamon rufous in color (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). The pelage of the hands and feet are a dull rufous color mixed with whitish-beige (Rasoloarison et al., 2000). This species has vibrissae that are dark in color (Rasoloarison et al., 2000).

RANGE:
The Sambirano mouse lemur is found in North-western Madagascar in Ankarana Special Reserve (Rasoloarison et al., 2000).
