Hello everyone, this as you know is my first fanfic! Yeah! This story takes place in the beginning of Sailor Moon series when Darien and Serena didn’t exactly see eye to eye. Well actually Darien’s so tall I don’t think they will ever see eye to eye, but you know what I mean! I hate long author notes so without further ado, I present... In Sickness or in Health By Marie Hess As most of you know my name is Darien Chiba. Let’s not be formal though. You can call me Darien. My story is mostly about myself, and the girl who brightens my day with one of her million dollar smiles. Serena. Now my poor Serena wasn’t smiling that day. Nope from what I had heard she was stuck in her bed sick. Now being the nice guy that I was I decided even though she thought I was a jerk, and I thought her hair looked like spegetti crowned with two golden meatballs, I was going to pay her a visit. So sit back, relax, grab some chips, and enjoy my little story. I had woken up that day in a bright mood. The girl in my dreams had finally taken a break, and had decided not to disturb my slumbering. Instead all night I had I dreamt peacefully of my dear Serena. Everyone thinks that if we got the chance we would slit each others throat but I truthfully think she’s my angel. It’s just that if I don’t tease her she would never notice me. Today though that was all going to change. I, Darien, am going to march up to her house, and hand her a cup of orange juice, and my classic symbol. A rose. So with no worries I quickly dressed in a pair of jeans, and a tee shirt. No use of getting fancy on her, yet I thought smiling. After looking myself over in my full-length mirror I grabbed some money, and left my apartment spirits high. On my way their I stopped to pick up a cup of orange juice. I tied it with a red ribbon. She was going to get a kick out of that I muttered aloud. Maybe too loud because Andrew said “Who?” “ Uh, no one.” “ No one? Then why are you tying it with a ribbon?” Andrew knows everything. It’s hard to keep a secret from that man! Lucky for me though he’s nice enough to keep it to himself. Most of the time anyway. “Well, just making it look nice.” “For who?” He should take up being one of those psychic hot line people. He’d make a great one, plus think of the money. “I give up.” “Then tell me.” “You know how Serena is sick. Well..” “You felt bad so your paying her a visit. Am I right?” I told you Andrew is a psychic. Now how he manages to do it, I do not know! “Right.” I said in defeat. I waited for a comeback. But no his blue eyes twinkled, and his mouth crept upward into a knowing smile. But their was no comeback. “Better get going Darien. Don’t wanna keep your meatball head waiting.” He said before silently walking into the arcade’s backroom. I was stunned. No I wasn’t stunned, I was shocked. I had at least expected some kind of remark about how I liked her. Or maybe about how she liked me too. Your meatball head. It certainly had a very nice ring to it. Andrew always knows just how to brighten my day even more. I’ll have to thank him one of these days. I walked out of the arcade practically giddy with delight. None the less though I had to find a floral store though. So as I merrily skipped down the street I struck the treasure I had been searching for. I walked in the store, but as soon as I did I saw my happiness retreating, and my sixth sense kicking into high gear. Something wasn’t right here. It’s a floral shop my mind screamed. What evil could flowers posses? Little did I know that a weed had grown in place of what looked like flowers. But then again, I’m getting ahead of my story. So I picked a delicate rose trying ever-so-hard to ignore my bad omen. I handed the money to a blonde haired man who seemed to radiate with the evil power I sensed but my poor Serena was calling me, and when Serena needed Darien I had to be their promptly on time. I walked down the Tokyo streets trying hard not to step hard on the cracks. I knew it was a childish game, but I still couldn’t get over the strange power that possessed the floral shop. My thoughts began to race as I tried to place where I had felt the same power before. Knock it off Darien I told myself mentally as I walked up Serena’s steps to her door. Praying that her dad had put away his gun I rang the doorbell. No one answered so I rang it again. This time I heard footsteps, and a high-pitched voice complain about getting peace and quiet. The door inched open to revel an obvious sick Serena. Her usually high spirited body now looked worn down, and tired. Her face was pale, and her eyes seemed confused and groggy. Her hair was out of it’s usual ‘meatball style’ and hung down to her ankles. I felt my heart break in two as she let out a horse cough. Right there and then I wanted to find a cure to whatever made her sick. I would have but she still was staring at me in disbelief. I had to say something. “Serena, umm hi! How are you doing?” Her blue eyes became less confused as she put on one of those smiles. I felt my heart melt, along with the rest of my world. I couldn’t figure out how this one girl could change my world with one of her smiles. Imagine her hugging me my inner self told me. I nearly fainted. “Hi, Darien. I’m doing all right. Wanna come in?” Come in? Heck I wanted to come in, and hold her eternally in my arms. I wanted to let her know she meant everything to me. I wanted to tell her what a true gift from God she was. I wanted her. But for now I’ll settle for entering her house. “Sure, I mean if you sure your up to it I mean.” “I am, come in.” She gestured me in with a smile spread on her face. I greatly took her offer and stepped in as she closed the door behind me. “So, Darien, umm...why...I mean, well, how come...you know...um why are you...here?” “ I heard you weren’t feeling good. So I decided to come and see how you were. And to give you these.” I handed her my get well gifts with a grin on my face. She blushed, smiled widely and squealed. “Oh my God! That’s so sweet of you!” Now the thing that she did totally through me off. She hugged me! She threw her warm, fragile arms around me and hugged me! It was my turn to go into shock as I carefully pulled my arms around her. The feeling of being so close to her threw my mind into a world of sugar, spice, and everything nice. My heart pounded excitingly , and I hoped she couldn’t hear it’s thumping beat. Thinking everything was perfect suddenly without warning I heard a soft, but evil, humming. Serena went slack in my arms and I felt her go weak. I looked down to see her glowing a soft pink, and her blue eyes slowly closing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Spoilers for chapter 2: Darien has an intresting expirence trying to get Serena in bed so she can rest.
