SAILOR PEACE ~*~**~***~****~*****~******~*******~******~*****~****~***~**~*~ Usagi and Mamoru: The After Math Chapter 2 ~*~**~***~****~*****~******~*******~******~*****~****~***~**~*~ Usagi awoke to the sound of people talking. She remembered she was in Mamoru’s apartment and immediately guessed it was the girls in the living room. She lifted herself slowly off the bed. She didn’t really want to face the girls, so she put her ear to the doorway to listen in. * Sure! * she thought. * Mamo-chan was easy to deal with, but he doesn’t know me as well as the girls yet. I’m sure they already know something’s up. WAIT! What did Rei just say? * She jerked her head back from the door. * Oh No! That PYRO better not be telling Mamo-chan what I think she is! * She thought and turned her head back to the door. //In the living room// “What did you just say Rei?” Mamoru asked in a quiet, disbelieving voice. Rei gulped once more and looked around the room, her eyes pleading for help in explaing the situation. Ami noticed this and begave to give a subtle, yet clinical explanation. “Mamoru-san...What Rei is trying to say is that Usagi is....well she suffers from bipolar illness...” she whispered, then looked at Mamoru’s confused gaze. She sighed. Makoto took over the explantion for a while. “She’s got an illness that can also be called manic depression. She never really got over the death of her father and she thinks it’s her fault...and she’s becoming her mother...” Makoto whispered. “Shingo told us that he overheard his grandparents talking about it once. They were worried that Ikuko-san wasn’t capable of taking care of herself and her kids. They said something about her having depressive episodes as a teenager before she married Kenji-san.” She paused and looked at the others for help, like Rei had done. Minako took over. “ He did some research and found out his mother was put in a mental institution about ten years before Usagi was born. She got out three years before Usagi came along and did fine until he was about ten. He remembers he and Usagi had to live with their grandparents for about a year. That’s when he overheard everything. He’s afraid Ikuko-san will need to be placed in a mental institution...” Mamoru glanced at the girl’s faces to see if all they had said was true. They all nodded sadly at him. “Well what does this mean for Usako?” he asked. “She seems normal. I haven’t noticed anything wrong with her!” he said and looked at the girls. “Well she did make up with me quicker than I’ve ever seen her do, it was almost as if she was *too* bubbly....and she has cried a lot more lately, but it wasn’t THAT bad!” Amy took over in explaining once more. “In major depression or the depressed phase of bipolar illness, a depressed mood predominates, although the patient may not be aware of feeling sad. Typically, he or she loses all interest in and withdraws from usual activities. In the manic phase of bipolar illness, the patient's mood can be elevated, expansive, or irritable.¤” She said quickly, trying to get it all out. All the girls, even Mamoru looked at her confused, so Setsuna translated. She and the outers had kept quiet for most of the meeting. “What Ami-chan means is that in the current state of Usagi-chan’s illness, her depressed mood prevails, although she may not think she’s sad. Usually, depression patients lose all interest in stuff they usually do, like school work and after school activities, social functions, etc. In the manic stage of the disease, her mood’s can be either VERY bubbly, spaced out, or irritable.” The mysterious time senshi finished. She never abandoned her post at the time gate, unless for emergencies, which this OVER-qualified as. She knew that if something wasn’t done, then the future’s balance lay on the line. Minako looked confused at the last statement and Makoto summarized. “That means when she’s angry it’ll be ten times as bad. When she’s bubbly, it’ll be like she overdosed on prozac, and when she’s spaced out, well let’s just say it will be a coma with her eyes open.” Minako nodded and looked over at Mamoru, who stared longingly at his bedroom door. “Why...why didn’t Usa tell m-me?” he whispered. He turned back to the senshi and they saw tears in his eyes. “Am I not important to her?!” He asked raising his voice. He sat on the edge of the couch, scrubbing his hands over his face, then propped his elbows on his knees, hands still covering his face. “I’m her fiancee for crying out loud! Don’t I deserve to know?!” he asked, practically yelling and throwing his hands in the air. “I told her everything....everything about me....my parents....the orphanage....EVERYTHING!!!!” he yelled, slamming his fist on the glass-topped coffee table causing it to shatter. The girls looked on in shock. Never had they seen Mamoru so angry, at least not at Usagi. Haruka was the first to speak up. “Mamoru-san...”she said and sighed, then got up and walked over to him. “...listen.... Sometimes we don’t tell people things because we love them SO much that it hurts us...” She said placing an arm around Mamoru and looking up slightly at Michiru, who had been sitting away from her. “And in Usagi’s case, she cares more for others than herself. She would rather die than know she put a burden on you or any of us.” As she spoke, the girls nodded in agreement. “Anyway, Mamoru-san, Usagi’s afraid of becoming her mother. Her mom is so bad off, she will most defianately be put in an institution. It’s too late for Ikuko-san, and Usagi doesn’t want to end up with her fate...” Ami said. Makoto got up and walked over to Mamoru and placed an arm around him for two reasons. A: to comfort him and B: to help Haruka hold him down in case his anger got the best of him again. “So, she’s been trying to hide it...but it’s better we caught on now....before it’s too late...” Makoto finished for Ami. “Prince, you have to understand that the Princess’s fate determines all of ours. We must be strong for her, or all will crumble at our feet.” The long forgotten Hotura said, stepping from behind Setsuna. She never spoke up until needed. Mamoru looked up at all the caring gazes of the girls. Michiru stood up and sat beside Haruka. “They are right Mamoru-kun. Usagi needs us. Even though others may make mistakes, we make them also...” Michiru said, placing and arm around Haruka, smiling to say she forgave her. “We must forgive ALL that others may do, if we expect to be forgiven ourselves.” Mamoru nodded and got up to go check on Usagi. //Mamoru’s bedroom// Usagi had slumped against the door, locked it and been in her own little world of despair when she heard Mamoru smash the table top. Never, EVER, had Mamoru been mad AT her. She was so scared. *What if Mamoru never forgives me for this. I don’t think I could go on living if he didn’t forgive me!* She cried as she heard someone jiggle the door handle. “Usako?” He yelled, finding the door locked. “ USA! Why is the door locked?! Usako!!” he yelled through the door. Usagi cried harder as she heard Mamoru’s voice. “USA! Please Open up!” he yelled. Usagi just shook her head and cried. “No Mamo-chan...I can’t....I can’t keep...” She whispered and grew quiet, and Mamoru knelt down beside the door. “You can’t what Usa?!” he asked a little less loudly, motioning for the senshi to transform. “Usa? What can’t you do....please baby...answer me...” he whispered through the door. Usagi was clenching her eyes shut so tight that she didn’t notice the bright transformation light seep under the doorway. Her fists tightened as she heard the change in Mamoru’s voice *How can he be so cruel one minute and so kind the next?* she thought, then grew angry at her conclusion. “WHY?!” she yelled through the door. “So you can save your pretty little future world? So after you save poor little helpless Usagi you can be the hero, who finds another queen and leaves the psycho princess in an asylum?!” She yelled and stood up by the door. Mamoru pressed his ear against the door trying to follow her movements. He remembered what Makoto said about anger being ten times worse. “Usagi....I could never replace you....I want to help...please Usa...baby?” he asked. “That is it, isn’t it Mamoru?!” she yelled and through a vase at the door. “Isn’t it?!” she yelled waiting for his reply. She ran to his dresser to grab another object to throw, when she caught a glimpse of herself in his wall mirror. Before her she saw a pale, ghostly image of a once powerful, happy girl. Her blond hair was tangled and fell loosely to the floor. Her clothes were mussed and wrinkled. Her usually shiny, bright, happy face was now tear streaked and pale...dark circles shadowed her once bright eyes. She brought a trembling hand up to the mirrors surface and traced along the image. A frown crept across her face and she slammed her fist into the mirror, glass cutting her as it impacted. She slumped to the floor and let out a blood curdling scream. “Usa?!” Mamoru yelled as he beat the door. “Usa! What happened? What was that?” He cried. He turned to the senshi. “Girls go to the balcony and keep her from doing anything irrational....please hurry!” he said as they ran out the apartment door. He didn’t care if the world saw them leaving his apartment, as long as Usagi was safe nothing mattered. He turned back to the door. “Usako....baby...please answer me...I love you so much....I want to help you...I want to marry you....you mean so much to me...” he whispered. “I would gladly give my life to ease all your pain, please Usa...let me in..” he said kneeling by the door. He heard the lock click and Pluto opened the door. He jumped to his feet and ran into the room. “Where is she? What happened?!” he yelled pushing through the girls and to the balcony. He held his breath and prepared himself as he looked over the edge...afraid to find Usagi’s crumpled body on the street below. But he never did. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see Uranus pointing to the bathroom door on the opposite side of the room. He made his way slowly across the room and opened the bathroom door. Inside Usagi sat, curled up in the bathroom’s corner, cradling her cut hand in her in the folds of her skirt. Mamoru felt the deep breath he had been holding since Pluto opened the door whoosh from his chest as he walked towards Usagi. He stopped about one foot from her and knelt down so that they were at eye level. He slowly lifted her hand from her lap and examined it. He ripped part of his shirt off and wrapped her hand with it. He brought it gently to his lips and kissed it as Usagi looked up at him. “Don’t leave Usagi...We are going to get you help and then everything will be back to normal...I promise...” Usagi nodded. “But things are never normal Mamo-chan...nothing’s normal....” she whispered and all Mamoru could do to answer was hug her body close to his. ~*~**~***~****~*****~******~*******~******~*****~****~***~**~*~ THE END for this week. Sorry it took so long and that it’s soo short, but I had to do some research on manic depression.
