Detailed
Review -
-
At Science Frontiers, lab technician Reggie and
other workers are attacked by men claiming to be from the Resistance and
demanding to get to Nathan Bates. They shoot up the lab and threaten
the scientists, until one technician manages to set off the alarm.
In the scuffle the leader is slightly wounded by a guard as they make their
escape.
-
Kyle lies in his bed dreaming while Elizabeth
practises using her powers, turning the light and radio on and off using
mind control. She practises lifting the bed and the still sleeping
Kyle, but drops the bed when she is distracted by news of the attempt on
Nathan's life from the radio. Kyle is tormented by Nathan's shooting
and Elizabeth attempts to comfort him.
-
Photos of Mike, Juliet, and Ham are on the front
page of every paper, blaming them for the attack at Science Frontiers.
The group decide to split up to discover the truth. While Ham goes
to check out other Resistance groups in the area, Robin is assigned the
task of going to see George Caniff, the owner of an underground newspaper,
in order to set the record straight.
-
At the Visitor Legation, Diana confirms that her
operative is in place, and has made contact with someone that he hopes
can lead him to the Resistance. When the men who attacked the
lab arrive, Diana believes them to be Resistance members, but is reassured
by Charles - their leader is Lt. James, an expert in covert operations.
Charles' plan is to turn the people against the Resistance through these
attacks.
-
Lt. James assures Charles that all went well,
and shows him that the only injury was a small scratch on his arm.
Charles and Diana plan to reach Nathan, whom Diana believes is alive -
he has told her that he wears a device on his wrist which releases the
red-dust toxin into the atmosphere the moment his pulse stops beating.
-
Reggie is taken blindfolded to the Resistance
Headquarters below Club Creole and interrogated by Julie. Though
he is frightened, he tells her that he saw the cut on Lt. James arm, and
that it was bleeding green blood!
-
Nathan remains in a coma at Science Frontiers,
and Mr. Chiang takes command. In a meeting with Charles and Diana,
Mr. Chiang informs them that he is merely speaking for Nathan, who does
not trust the Visitors. Charles reveals a new computer program -
a computer generated image of Nathan which they can program to speak.
Mr. Chiang allows them to use this new program to broadcast 'Nathan' on
television.
-
Robin goes to Caniff Printing and informs George
Caniff that the Resistance had nothing to do with the attempt on Nathan's
life. There she meets John Lane, a reporter for the Phoenix Post.
While there, Nathan's men raid Caniff Printing and arrest everyone.
When Robin is being roughed up, John jumps one of the men and is knocked
out. Everyone is taken to the back room, but George's wife and son
manage to escape.
-
The Resistance members are shocked when 'Nathan'
appears on TV with the announcement that known Resistance sympathizers
are being arrested and will be executed at the rate of one per day until
Mike, Juliet, and Ham surrender. Ham wishes Nathan dead, prompting
an attack from Kyle. After Mike and Chris break them up, they realize
that they must work together to find and rescue the hostages.
-
Robin reassures George that everything will be
all right, and that he will be back with his family in 48 hours.
She knows, though, that this is not true, and confides her fears in John.
Ham, meanwhile, meets with a police officer who confirms that the hostages
are not being held in any city facility.
-
When Mr. Chiang arrives at Caniff Printing, he
forces the six hostages to choose numbers for their order of execution.
Robin gets #3. George picks second last and gets #1, but John tells
Mr. Chiang that he got #1 in order to buy some time for George, because
George has a family.
-
Mike finds Mrs. Caniff and brings her to Resistance
Headquarters. She tells Julie that all of the hostages are still
at the printing house, and Juliet promises to rescue them.
-
Meanwhile, Elias and Willie have already headed
to Caniff Printing and see Robin inside. Willie is nervous and wants
to head back to Club Creole immediately, but Elias insists on checking
out a Visitor platform being erected outside the store. He
is spotted and raises his gun, but the Visitors turn the gun on the platform,
a disintegrator, and Elias is instantly vaporized. Willie screams
in terror and tries to run towards Elias, but he is seen and has to flee.
Robin witnesses Elias' death and turns to John for support, and they share
a kiss.
-
George confronts John about switching numbers.
John refuses to give the number back, and insists that he wants to buy
time for George and Robin, as this will give his life meaning.
-
Willie returns to Resistance Headquarters shocked
and numb. Mike, Julie, and Ham consider giving themselves up.
Ham drags Willie to his feet and forces him to confront Elias' death.
Willie gets under control and manages to help the others by providing details
about the set-up at Caniff Printing.
-
Aboard the L.A. Mothership, Charles and Lydia
enjoy an evening of Napoleon Brandy and a bowl of worms. Lydia flirts
with Charles, who says that he remembers her from the Academy. Diana
arrives, dressed to kill, and is surprised to see that Lydia is also there
- the brandy was a gift from Diana. Charles wants more information
on the Starchild, and Diana explains that Robin's DNA is unusual and easily
manipulated - she has been unable to find another human with the same genetic
makeup to duplicate the experiment.
-
The Resistance plan their attack on Caniff Printing.
Using a diversion, and with Mike as bait, they plan to rescue the hostages.
Mike wears a throat mic to give a code signal to the others when he is
ready. The freedom fighters split up to begin their assault.
-
Outside of Caniff Printing, Mr. Chiang assembles
with Charles, Diana, and Lydia. Nathan's man takes John outside,
after he says goodbye to a tearful Robin, and tells her that he wishes
they had more time together. John stoically puts on his sunglasses
and walks out into the sunlight. He is led onto the platform
next to the disintegrator where he refuses a blindfold.
-
The Resistance members are in place, and the throat
mic is tested. As Mike heads towards Caniff Printing, Julie, Ham,
and Elizabeth attempt to disable the guard at the buildings back door.
When they are unable to reach him without warning the others, Elizabeth
attempts to use her powers to disable him but cannot feel the build-up
of energy necessary to do so. In desperation, Juliet jumps out to
shoot the guard. He turns to fire upon her, and Elizabeth is then
able to fling out her powers and knock the guard unconscious.
Ham and Julie enter the back of the building - while Ham disables one guard,
George knocks out the other and the hostages are rescued.
-
Mike surrenders to the Visitors and is led to
the top of the disintegrator platform. He jokes with Charles, saying
"What a way to go", which is the signal for Kyle and Willie. They
roar into the square in Kyle's truck, while Willie throws smoke bombs from
a box in the back of the truck. Diana fires a burst of laser
at them, but Mike manages to push John into the truck, where he lands hand-first
on the box of smoke bombs. Mike tells Kyle to leave, and struggles
with the guards.
-
Diana raises her gun to fire, but Charles insists
that he wants to take Mike on personally. The fight leads into Caniff
Printing where Mike has Charles pinned to the ground, until Charles spits
venom onto Mike. The venom hits him mostly in the forehead, and he
lays stunned on the floor but manages to kick Charles over the counter.
When Diana arrives firing her laser pistol, Mike escapes out the back door.
-
Back at Resistance Headquarters, Ham and Kyle
resolve their differences. John decides to stay with the Resistance.
John notices that his hand is bleeding, and quickly moves to hide it from
the others. John's hand is bleeding green blood... he is a Visitor.
Freedom
Network Medal of Valour - The
Freedom Network Medal of Valour is awarded this week to Benny Scallini,
an insurance salesman from Atlanta, Georgia who derailed a train carrying
600 human prisoners to a Visitor labour camp. Half of the prisoners
were able to escape.
Bloopers
and Nitpicks -
-
Julie's interrogation of Reggie is totally out
of character.
-
When Elias is killed, Robin is watching at the
window with a look of shock on her face. Yet when
she turns from the window she has tears streaming down her face.
Bad continuity.
-
On the Mothership, the worm that Lydia eats looks
completely fake. It is a different colour and
consistency from all the other live worms in the bowl.
-
During the Resistance hostage rescue, Mike's throat
mic is completely out in the open as he is
wearing an open neck shirt. Wouldn't Charles and Diana have noticed
this and realized that
something was up?
Memorable Moments -
-
(Ham sees his picture in the paper)
Ham: It's
nice to be wanted.
-
(Lydia thinks of her stomach)
Charles: I'll
wager that if we hadn't arrived, they would have most certainly resorted
to nuclear
holocaust.
Lydia:
The fallout would've made the entire population
inedible.
-
(Mike eulogizes Elias)
Mike: Now
Elias is gone. But it's up to us to do something about it.
We know he wasn't perfect. He
took advantage of what we went through to set himself up - the flashy restaurant,
the whole nine yards. But when it counted, when the Visitors
returned, the truth was he cared too much to turn his back on us.
He gave us a place to stay, and he paid for it with his life. And
if you think about it, we're all together right now because of him.
I'd say we owe him one.
