When are you going to update this site??Why isn't Jimmy a partner while Rebecca is? Hasn't he been a lawyer longer than she is?
This is probably the most asked asked question about TP! Yes, Jimmy has been a lawyer longer than Rebecca, but he had only been at the firm a year and a half when Bobby made the others partners. Rebecca was the firm's secretary at the time, but Bobby gave her a small percentage (5%) because she helped him build the practice from scratch. (Yes, this is technically illegal. A non-lawyer cannot be a partner in a law firm. But Bobby said 'sue me') Bobby told Jimmy in another year he would be up for partner, and that it was still better than any offer he could ever get from another firm.
There are questions as to why Jimmy has not yet been made partner. This all happened in 218. "Food Chains," more than two years ago. There is some speculation that Jimmy does not want to be partner ('too much politics'), but more likely David E. Kelley has just not yet dealt with the issue.
When did Rebecca become a lawyer? Wasn't she the secretary?
Yes, she was the firm's secretary for all of season one and season two. At the beginning of season three, in episode 301. "Passing Go," the firm and we the viewers learn that Rebecca has been attending law school at night, in secret, and has passed the bar exam. So she then became a lawyer in the firm and Lucy Hatcher was hired as the new secretary.
How old is Lucy? Is she a lawyer? Why is she so much younger that the rest of the firm?
I get lots of Lucy-related questions. Apparently there is some confusion out there about her age and what she does. Lucy is NOT a lawyer. She is the firm's secretary. She was hired in season three (302. "Reasons to Believe") to replace Rebecca, who became a lawyer. (See above question). In season three, it was mentioned that Lucy was 18 years old, which would make her 19 or 20 now. So yes, she is obviously younger than the lawyers.
Where did Bobby go to law school?
This question is in dispute. In episode 112. "Hide & Seek" Bobby's mentor Raymond Oz says all Boston University grads have a chip on their shoulder from not getting into Harvard. He was referring to Bobby. However, in a recent 4th season episode, Bobby says he went to Suffolk University, and there is a degree on his wall from Suffolk. One possible explanation is that Bobby went to BU for undergrad work and Suffolk for law school.
Apparently, they were friends from college. Jimmy worked in a bank when the firm was in dire financial trouble, and he gave Bobby a shady loan. When the bank found out, the fired Jimmy and since, in his words, he 'used to be a lawyer' Bobby felt obligated to hire him since he felt responsible for getting him fired.
He was Lindsay's on-again, off-again boyfriend in season one, and also a rival attorney. He offered to drop a case against Lindsay's client in season one in exchange for a kiss from Lindsay. She refused. In episode 109. "Sex, Lies & Monkeys," Chris slips Lindsay the date-rape drug; she then plays a practical joke on him and shoots him in the leg!
When did we find out Lindsay and Bobby were having a secret affair?
In the episode 206. "Save the Mule," Bobby is interested in going out with Helen Gamble, Lindsay's best friend and a rival D.A. He and Lindsay spend one last night together before he pursues Helen. For the first time we find out that the tryst between Bobby and Lindsay has been going on for a while.
What is the issue between Bobby and Helen regarding euthanasia/doctor assisted suicide?
Both feel passionately about the issue, but couldn't disagree more. Bobby is a staunch supporter of a person's right to choose to die (as a young boy he was forced to turn off his mother's respirator as she lay dying of cancer). Helen feels euthansisa and mercy killings are just that - murder. Her grandmother fell "victim" to this when her family didn't want to be burdened anymore. Helen believes her grandmother probably wanted to continue living. (See episodes 203. "The Blessing," 313. "Judge & Jury," and 418. "Death Penalties.")
What percentage of the firm did each lawyer get when Bobby made them partners?
In episode 216. "Food Chains," Bobby decides to make some of his employees partners in the law firm. As senior partner, Bobby retained 65% of the practice. The rest of the 'pie' was divvied up based on seniority; Eugene got 12%, Ellenor got 10%, Lindsay got 8% and Rebecca received 5%. (Jimmy wasn't made a partner, see questions 1 and 2)
How much money does each lawyer make? I know Lindsay and Ellenor had a fight over this.
The famous fight took place in episode 315. "Lawyers, Reporters & Cockroaches." In that episode the lawyers' (and Lucy's) salaries were revealed via computer screen. Salary was based on business brought into the firm. We saw that:
Bobby makes $250K
Lindsay makes $242K
Ellenor makes $120K
Eugene makes $112K
Rebecca makes $60K
Jimmy makes $52K
and Lucy makes $31.5K
Wasn't the fight spectacular and hilarious? One of my favorite quotes came from that ep: "Not that it's any of my business, but you've got a big morale problem here."Does David E. Kelley write every episode of The Practice?
No, not really. He writes many of them, and contributes to a lot of them, but he does have co-writers. Some of them are Alfonso H. Moreno, Jill Goldsmith and Kay Foster.

Whether you're looking for "Happily Ever After," or "Line of Duty," I really can't help you. I cannot make copies of Practice videos for you. The feds might have some questions about the legality of the whole thing (kidding). Seriously, I don't have the capabilities to do it. (ie; only one VCR!) Do you have a transcript of the episode I'm looking for?
If it's not on the transcripts page, I don't have it. Sorry, but I don't take transcript requests. They are far too much work and we just don't have time. Maybe the next transcript we do will be the one you're looking for. Until then, please enjoy what I do have!
