When she sees Todd wearing sunglasses inside she wonders playfully if the light was too much for him.

Jean reaches to take off the sunglasses and realizes that Todd has a black eye. She demands to know who punched him, but Todd says it's okay, that it wasn't anyone.

Jean insists that it isn't all right and she's going to call the teacher and the principal of the school. Todd calls her back to stop her from doing it.

Todd tells her that if she does all of that, it'll just prove that he can't stand up for himself. He asks her not to do anything, saying he'll take care of it.
Trying to take the spotlight off the whole thing, Todd insists he's hungry and wanders off, leaving Jean to stand, staring at him as he leaves.

Charlie sits outside with Jean, talking about Todd. He thinks that she should talk to the people at the school, but Jean says she's promised not to.

Charlie doesn't say anything, but Jean can tell that he wants to say something so she finally encourages him to spit it out.

Charlie tells her about when he was head of the math club and got back at some guy who'd punched him every day. It took care of things, but also got him seven stitches.

He offers to help out by asking around, talking to some people and finding out if he can get to the real story behind everything.
