Images on the web have to be in one of the two formats: GIF or JPEG.
For GIF files, the extension is .gif. For JPEG files, the extension
is either .jpg or .jpeg; either will work fine.
GIF GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIF files are great for logos, icons, line art, and other simple images. They don't work as well for highly detailed images because the GIF format is limited to only 256 colors. JPEG JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group (the group that developed it). JPEG is pronounced jay-peg. JPEG was designed for the storage of photoric images. Unlike GIF images, JPEG images can have any number of colors, and the style of compression (the compression algorithm) it use works especially well for photographic patterns. |
