_____With three days until impact there was no time to prepare for the end. Millions of people flooded the inland areas hoping to flee from the monster, but that only made things worse. It did not matter if you were high or low the rock was still going to get you. While every country in the world watched and waited the roads became jammed and businesses closed. In the most urban areas people were running, crying, shouting and looting.
_____The second day scientists released the size of the threat, and it turned out to be an irregular 300 mile boulder that was rapidly descending upon the planet. No word was given on the impact zone. So still the multitudes did not know if they were going to die quick or a slow painful death in the aftermath. Most wanted it to be swift.
_____On the third and last day people everywhere just gave up the useless effort of escape and serenely waited until the zero hour. It was like a calm before the storm. The planetoid towered over the northern hemisphere. Many in the United States saw it there in the sky and knew it would be quick for them. Even in the day sky the object glowed brighter than the sun. Death was upon them as the asteroid hit the surface. The explosion was seen hundreds, even thousands of miles away.
_____Fire rose quickly upwards from the crater, and giant shock wave rippled through the crust. These waves circled the planet leaving decimation in its wake. When the wave hit the other side of the planet it caused the crust to burst open and great lava flows erupted. Huge ruptures opened in the great plates of Earth and consumed everything unlucky enough to be near them. Huge rivers of lava were again covering the surface of the planet.
_____Larger shock waves returned to the young crater, which was still yellow from the heat of impact. Still more asteroid material was sent hurtling through the atmosphere with a definite earth shattering explosion. Shock waves of shock waves migrated over the planet for days, and debris in the atmosphere blocked out the Sun. One Hundred percent of structures were obliterated and ninety-nine point nine percent of the Earth's population was annihilated.
_____The checks and balances of the universe restored the balance on the planet. Mother nature got her way, because of her secret pact with the energy of the cosmos. The agreement would allow her to again grow lush and green and blue without ignorant races destroying the treasures it took her billions of years to create. It kind of makes you wonder what other control devices mother nature has up her sleeve!
