This machine was manufactured by The American Button Hole, Overseaming, and Sewing Machine Company located on Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company was established in 1867 and continued until 1895. They began manufacturing the "New American" vibrating shuttle machine in 1874. It has an unusual shuttle/bobbin arrangement in that it is a vibrating shuttle but has a round bobbin similar to later rotary machines. Restoration of this one is not complete but I wanted to post pictures because it is somewhat rare and I thought someone might be searching for pictures of one. I do not have the treadle but I am actively looking. This machine was probably made about 1877 based on the serial number and the patent dates. It is difficult to see the last patent date because of the poor stamping but the date is May 27 1873.
