I live in Yuba City. We are located about 45 miles north of Sacramento, the capital of California. We are located in a very big valley. The valley is 500 miles long and 50 miles wide. We are on the north end of the valley. In our town, a company known as Sunsweet pruneds is located. My husband is manager of a power plant that helps make steam for Sunsweet. Steam is needed when making the prunes. The prune comes from a plum that is called a French Prune. Also grown here in this valley, is rice, peachers (cling type that are canned) tomatoes, almonds, pistachios and walnuts. kiwi fruit are grown here too. Their vines are like huge grape plants. We get lots of sun here, as it doesn't rain from about April to October. In the summer it can up to 115*, but that's okay, we have air conditioning. We hope you recover fast. Live Oak is a rural farming community in northwest Florida, situated about half way between Gainesville, Florida and Valdosta, Georgia. We are a farming community, raising lots of watermelon, corn, soybeans and tobacco. Agriculture is our main livelyhood here. Have you heard the song "Way Down Upon the Suwnnee River"? We are Suwanne County and the beautiful Suwannee winds through the lovely countryside and empties into the SantaFe River which flows to the Gulf of Mexico. We have many state parks in the area, including O'lustee State Park, where two weeks ago I got to watch the Battle of O'lustee reinactment, which is a reenactment of a battle between Union forces and the Confederacy. When the Confederacy beat the Union forces back to Jacksonville, they stopped the Union advancement into Florida and stopped them from blocking off the supply route for provisions to the confederate armies in north Florida and Georgia. It was considered to be a real victory for confederate forces. I have an elderly lady friend whose grandfather fought for the confederacy and was wounded at the Battle of O'Lustee and was a decorated hero in the battle. We have another river near here called the Itchnatucknee River. It is crystal clear all the time. In the summer the children have a wonderful time riding down the river on innertubes and can see the fish swimming and turtles walking along the bottom. Another town in Suwannee County is Branford, Florida. Branford is called the cave diving capital of Florida. There are many unerground caverns and caves that are fed by natural springs and after extensive safety training and certification, scuba divers go down into the caves and caverns to explore the underground cave systems. I wanted to write and tell you that I will be praying for you. I am so sorry that you are sick, but I am happy that you have lots of people around you that love you and care for you. I also wanted to tell you that you have a very nice dog. I guess from the pictures I saw that you show it? I have a friend in Cleburne, Texas that breeds the kind of dog you have. It is called an Australian Sheperd, right? He named on of his dogs after me. Her name is SuzieQ I too have a dog that I love very much. He is a yellow Lab and he sheds a lot! He also brings in the paper every morning. I have 2 cats and 2 gerbils also, and we are getting a guinea pig in about 3 weeks. She was just born this week at my little girl's school. My son was very ill when he was your age, and after 3 operations, he is doing quite well. He is 14 now, and in the 8th grade. He still remembers how scary it was to be sick, and so do I. What an inspiration Hunter is to the rest of us. He is truly a fighter. I was diagnosed with lung cancer in January, after suffering a heart attack. They put me thru numerous tests, to find out if the cancer had spread to anyplace else before they opened me up for surgery. I went in 3 weeks later and took another x-ray to see if the nodule had changed before I had surgery, and the nodule had disappeared. The doctor was simply amazed. He said there is no other word to describe where the nodule went other than to say it was a miracle, and that someone was surley watching out for me. I had a network of friends and family praying for me, and I know God listened to us all. I know you will recuperate from this too, Hunter, as God is listening to all those people who are asking for his help in curing you. Have faith and God be with you. |

I've lived in NH for 27 years now, after growing up in my early years in MA. Having lived in a large city in MA, I found NH much more to my liking. It has so much to see with the oceans, mountains and small town communities. I missed out on a big snowstorm this year!! It just wasn't in the cards for us; more ice than snow hit this year. We didn't even have a white Christmas. In fact, it has been a few years since there has been a beautiful white Christmas. I do miss them. I am looking forward to the beach season to come. We have colder water all summer in comparison to Florida, but with the hot sun, it is really refreshing to just run on in and jump the wavs to cool off. You won't find me swimming in it, though. They have International competition on this kayak course and at one of the festivals, they also have a little rubber ducky race down this course! People buy a rubber ducky,(they all have numbers on them)and then throw it in the river run at the start line net. The net is lifted and the little ducks start down the rapids...first duck at the finish wins a big prize. It's fun to watch them go over the rapids. |
