Synopsis |
||||
For Harry Fletcher, life on St Mary's Island is good. He has a fine boat and a long list of rich clients eager to charter it for the big game fishing of the Mozambique Channel. He has a home amongst the palms above a white coral beach and he has friends and pretty girls to share his paradise. Harry has earned all this the hard way, but now he is at peace. Until suddenly men from the world of violence which he has forsaken so long before arrive on the island to plunge him once more into a deadly game - for an unknown prize against undeclared odds. Of one thing Harry is certain: to fail is to die. The irrepressible Harry, adventurer and rogue, takes up the challenge and brings both a touch of hilarity and a chillingly ruthless sense of purpose to the quest, as he gropes his way towards the legendary golden tiger and its fabulous eye... |

From Andre' Mes - | |
EYE OF THE TIGER was the second Wilbur Smith book I read after RIVER GOD. After reading that book, I was concerned that EYE OF THE TIGER would not live up to my expectations from his Egyptian epic. I was wrong. As both stories were so totally different, set in different millenniums, I drew no comparisons and was swept into the knuckle-cracking story of Harry Fletcher and his underwater search for treasure. A one point the story seemed to wind down, but you know there is more and it explodes back again with false identities and more ruthless killers. One almost wishes that you could visit St Mary's after Smith so lovingly describes its coral reefs and sun-bleached beaches! In an age when treasure hunts are few and far between, EYE OF THE TIGER brings back the childhood dream of discovering vast amounts of treasure with lethal danger lurking just around the next corner! |

It is a blood-and-cyclone story of derring-do for those who like their fiction served fast and steaming...it has characters that are more than marionettes, it has humour and it is all put together in sweaty muscular prose with supreme professionalism, vividness and attention to detail. A tale to delight the millions of addicts of the gutsy adventure story. - Sunday Express
The real strength of Mr Smith's book is its pace. It's like three good books in one. At the end there is a manhunt and a wreck stuffed with riches. And the twist in the very last page will leave you gasping. It is rich fast entertainment, all the way. - Daily Mirror
A thundering good read is virtually the only way of describing Wilbur Smith's books and this is perhaps the best of them. - The Irish Times |
