Synopsis

Craig Mellow returned to Zimbabwe as a wealthy author, lonely and disillusioned by exile in New York. sally-Anne Jay was a beautiful ally, the fearless photographer whose pictures from the front line had reawakened Craig's passion for the land he had so recently fought for... and lost.

Their book should be about the Africa of Craig's ancestors, a bloody history of war and conflict. But their real task is a spying mission for the World Bank. The barbaric trade in ivory poaching and suspected Russian involvement in a plot to overthrow the government have led to a savage tribal war.

Returning to the vast, derelict Ballantyne estates, once his home, Craig is caught up in the deadly conflict between the deposed Matabele and the ruling Shona and comes face to face with the power-crazed fanatic who would sell his people into slavery and plunge his country into a new Dark Age.
