Favorite Martin & Lewis film: Living It Up (1954)

On July 25, 1946 entertainment history was made. On this date Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis performed for the first time as a team. Their ad-libbing and wild antics quickly shot them to stardom and within a year they were a hot ticket. You literally couldn't get into a club where they were performing.

During their ten year partnership they made 16 movies together. Their first was called My Friend Irma (1949) They were also popular hosts of the television variety show, "The Colgate Hour." Also, between movie and television gigs they also had a popular nightclub act and radio show.

By 1956 the partnership started to grow sour. Dean was tired of playing stooge to Jerry Lewis while Jerry got all the best lines and the laughs. Their last movie together was Hollywood or Bust (1956). They made their last nightclub performance at the Copacabana on July 24, 1956, almost a year to the day of the beginning of their legendary partnership.

Twenty years after their split they appeared together on Jerry Lewis' MDA telethon. Frank Sinatra was to appear on the telethon and brought along his friend, Dean Martin. It was what Martin and Lewis fans were waiting for for years. The public witnessed a moving reunion of one of entertainment's best comedy teams.
