You have reached the web page promoting the campaign of Russell E. Darden for Virginia Division Commander, Sons of Confederate Veterans, in the election to be held in April, 2000 in Alexandria, Virginia. Russell E. Darden is a native of Courtland, Virginia and is married to the former Pam Phelps. They have three grown children and five grandchildren. Russell is retired from Union Camp Corporation and has been a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans for forty-seven years. A dedicated re-enactor, he attended the 135th anniversary of Gettsyburg this year. He was a Cub Master for two years and a Scout Master for twenty-eight years, and received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest adult recognition and is himself an Eagle Scout with three palms. Russell is a member of the Nansemond Chapter Archeological Society of Virginia - member for 47 years. He is also Past President of the ASV, and the 1971 Archaeologist of the Year and is currently the Society Treasurer. Russell is also a Past Member of the Virginia Jaycees and Past President of the Franklin Jaycees. This great Southern gentleman has held many positions within the Virginia Division. He is currently the Treasurer of the Army of Northern Virginia and has been Chaplain of the Virginia Division. He is a past Second Lt. Commander of the Virginia Division. He is the founding Commander of the Urquhart-Gillette Camp, Franklin, Virginia. This gentleman is the national education coordinator for the Point-Look-Out Prison Organization. In this capacity, Russell has traveled extensively all over the country and has given educational programs expounding upon the truth of the terrible abuse of our gallant Southern soldiers. Mr. Darden is an Executive Board Member of the Tidewater Scottish Society and was recently instrumental in having the Confederate Memorial Tartan fabric registered with the Scottish Tartan Society in Scotland. He is very proud of his Celtic background. Russell is known far and wide as a great professional speaker and unselfishly conducts Confederate history programs in local schools and civic organizations at his own expense and time. This gentleman is a champion of the Southern ideals of chivalry, honesty, fair play, and pursuit of high standards of public demeanor. No one man in the Virginia Division deserves to be the next Virginia Division Commander than this hard working, dedicated, distinguished and eloquent gentleman of the South. Russell is a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Courtland. He is a licensed Lay Reader of his church.
