The Online Campaign

A Wizard's Fate

Turns 31-50

Introduction from The Jericho: We experience our first death. The first encounter was the toughest in the module. Sometimes, however, the bear gets you. The module continues to linger on and on and on and on....

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 31

Jus runs screaming to the side of this 'spider' while drawing his

swords. He parries and tumbles flashing back and forth in front of the spider. The spider watches him warily.

Nonam rushes to stand over Korok's prone body. Nonam then crouches down and begins casting.

Gareth attacks at the same moment as Nonam's spell comes off.

Fire shoots forth from Noman's brightly glowing hands just missing the underbelly of the spider.

Nonam's rapidly fading fingerprints glow on the handles as they streak toward the spider.

Gareth swings and the sword bounces off the hide of the spider. The sword vibrates with the blow and flies free of Gareth's grasp landing on the other side of the spider two steps up putting it directly in the path of Noman's wild spell heating it.

During one of Jus' tumbles, he ends up near the creature. He focuses all

his strength into a punch into the creature's side. It doesn't come off clean and grazes off the slick hide of the spider.

The spider turns to Gareth and attacks him with his tail. It misses slamming into the wall just above his head. The spider screeches with frustration.

-------------------

Since most of you in your many "I'll do this ifs" mentioned trying for a specific body part I should tell you about the Called Shot. A Called shot is to a body part such as leg, mouth, chest, etc. which is done at -4 to hit (a greater penalty is possible if required by the DM) which results in an injury that keeps the creature from attacking for 1 round. Disarming may also be accomplished in this manner.

If you roll (or in this case I roll for you) a 20, you get to roll to hit again and if successful do additional damage. A natural 20 is always a hit, no matter what.

If a 1 is rolled on an attack the weapon is dropped, bow pops a string, etc. with the result that the next attack is missed while the attacker recovers. During that time, no dex bonus applies to their AC.

All of this is in found in the Players Handbook, 2nd Edition.

Both David and JK rolled a one this round. I had JK attempt to hit AC 6 for a called shot to the belly....normally Mages have to hit AC10 for a magical attack that does not automatically hit an opponent. The result in JK's case was the the spell was off target missing the spider and luckily Gareth. In Gareth's case, his caused his sword to leave his hand. I rolled a 12 sided die for a scatter chart with 12 being the direction that Gareth was facing. I rolled 11 o'clock which put it on the stairs and in the path of JK's miscued spell. Just explaining things so you don't lynch me.

See ya tomorrow,

Jerry

......................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 32

Gareth draws his dagger with his off hand and holds his sword hand awkwardly in pain. He dives under the spider and positions himself by his sword on the stairs, watching as it turns from red back to it's normal color. After a few moments he picks it up. It burns, but not too much.

Nonam, having a huge deficiency in the wisdom department, leaps to the spiders back and holds on with one hand while stabbing with the other missing.

The spider strikes at Noman hitting him with the tail full in the chest for 3 points damage. Noman screams and willfully fights off the poison. His cloak is ripped where the stinger penetrated his flesh.

Jus quickly gets back against the wall away from the creature, draws and fires his bow. The first shot misses flying by Noman's head as it bounces off the hide of the spider. The second hits the spider sticking it for 3 points damage.

....................................

David says: A 1!! 2 ones??!! uh huh ....

Jerry says: Yep, uh huh....

Tom says: We have a rule that says that if a archer wants to avoid taking the chance of hitting a compatriot that is closed with the archer's target, he should announce a called shot to avoid hitting friendly forces. The shot is made at -4, but there is no chance of hitting a friendly party.

Jerry says: So shall it be!

Jerry says: William Shatner is coming to town Sunday to the Wichita Falls 4th Annual Star Trek Festival. David, you're welcome to come use my extra ticket if ya wanna go with me.

See ya'll tomorrow.

Jerry

....................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 33

Nonam screams and leaps off the spider's back. The spider heaves at the same time and Nonam is thrown hard against the stairs taking one point damage. He then groans to his feat and climbs up the stairs a little ways preparing his daggers.

Gareth gets back up and assumes attack position and attacks with his sword his mighty blow slashing thru the creature's hide doing 16 points damage killing the creature.

Jus slowly lowers his bow, looks at Nonam and says, "You were making this a bit difficult!"

The spider collapses into a sticky mess and then a magical sheen surrounds the creature as it transforms before your very eyes into a small impish red creature with pointed tail. A pentagram begins to form in the air around the creature. What appears to be the creatures soul separates from the dead body and screams, "No! NAAHHHH!!! It's not my fault!! Don't!! NoAAUUGH!!!"

The soul is drawn into the pentagram stretching a small cord of flesh between the body and the soul. Eventually it breaks, causing the body to fade away into nothing as the pentagram seems to become more and more distant without leaving the hallway. Eventually with a light pop, it disappears.

............................

Well, that was fun.

Guys, just let me know when you need an extra day and we'll slow down for you. No problem. I understand too that doing a quick turn is almost as easy, though, as dropping a quick note saying you don't have time. So I'll try to use some judgment as well.

See yall tomorrow.

Jerry

..............

.......................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 34

Nonam rushes to Korok's side to see about his condition. While doing this he speaks to Jus, "I was making this difficult?!? You were the one shooting arrows in a cave. Just how small of a fighting space do you need before you use those swords?" Then he looks to Gareth, "On the other hand Gareth proved himself a master of his blade. Those were mighty blows my friend. I forsee that one day you will be a legend."

Jus runs over to see if there is anything he can do to help Korok.

Both realize about the same time that Korok is dead.

Gareth looks around for any other 'things' to fight. He says "Next time leave

my sword alone! I kind of like it. How did you guys open the door? What can

we do for Korak?" After somebody tries to help him he says "What was that

thing we just killed?"

Jus asks Nonam, "Would you care to explain what just happened; what that

thing was at the end?"

Jus then sees if he can recover for use or repair either of the two

arrows he fired. The first is chipped and the shaft if cracked. The second lays against the side of the cave in two pieces.

............

David says: I am leaving town today and won't be able to read my mail again until Monday.

Gareth fights with standard weapons and is glad to lead if someone wants to

releplay in my absence.

Jerry says: Tom, you listening? If'n you want take over David's turns till Monday. If I don't get a turn from you, no prob. I'll do it. :)

Jerry says: John, what was that executable you sent me? I thought I'd ask before running it. Knowing John, my computer would begin thinking it was the HAL9000 unless I make him a 20th level elven king.

Y'all have a good evening.

Jerry

..........................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 35

Nonam stands up still staring at the lifeless Korok. "I think that it is likely that that creature was something Elzid kept around to protect his tower... probably against the creature's will. But it's really hard to say for sure..."

Nonam then looks at Jus and Gareth. He's very pale. "I think we should go out and make camp. I'm in no condition to explore much farther. Plus we should also take a little time to bury our companion."

Jus takes a heavy sigh before speaking to Nonam. "First off, mister

throw-myself-under-a-scorpions-tail, do not assume you understand the reasons

behind someone's fighting style. First, one of my strengths lies in my

agility. I attempted to focus the creature's attacks on me while you others

struck. It was quickly obvious that this creature was too intelligent to be

easily distracted. Second, after seeing all of our attacks glancing off of the

creature, I resorted to the weapon I am highly specialized with -- my bow. It

may not do as much damage as my swords, but I can hit very well with it. And

finally, I as well thank Gareth for his masterful blow against this creature.

And I thank you, as well, for your attempt to hit the creature with your spell

and for your attempt to pummel the creature with your dagger. Although I did

strike the creature, in the future I will try and hit monsters with more than

a single measly arrow. Instead I will be sure and beat the creatures silly

with my swords, no matter how ineffectual it seems, while they take their time

killing my compatriots one person at a time. Again, for the trivial token of

resistance I was able to give, I apologize."

After a moment Jus seems to resign himself to something and turns back to

Nonam. "I honestly apologize for however I offended you. I just do not

understand your reaction."

"Now," Jus says, "unless you humans have another custom I am unaware of, I

suggest we take Korok into the city and try to find his relations."

Gareth picks up the body and says, "Does anyone know where he is from?" I agree that we should bury his body and honor him. They won't accept an orc at the graveyard in town, so I suggest we make our own. Then rest as Nonam suggested.

-------------------------------------

JK says: Save vs. Poison or die from an invisible creature?? Ouch. Seems a little harsh for the 1st battle. Hey Tom, if it makes you feel better, I think Jerry is a big old mean person.

Jerry says: I agree. It wasn't intended as a first battle. It just happened that way.

Sorry this is a bit late. I was very tired last night and put it off until this morning. I hope it's early enough to get something back tonight, but no biggie if we wait until tomorrow. <smile>

.........................................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 36

Nonam bows to Jus, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I was, and still am, upset over the death of our companion. Now then maybe we can find out more about him. Perhaps he has some letter from home or a clan medallion or something. That way we can inform his family of his death." Nonam begins to search the body looking for any identifying marks, letters, jewelry, etc.

Nonam notices two things when he searches the body: a coin on a thong, in a orcish-common blend, which is translated to Korok of the Q'ulada of clan Kaplag. A clawed hand holding a scimitar is engraved on the other side of the coin. (Q'ualada = Warriors, Kapalg = Sucess). One of his scimitars looks very used, and also bears the Kaplag name, as well as the clawed hand and scimitar. On Korok's right shoulder is a tattoo of the hand and scimitar, limed in flames.

Jus shrugs and follows the others to the outside. He helps dig a grave using

whatever is available. Jus insists that Korok be buried with his sword,

referring that hunters need their weapons whatever ground their foot may

tread.

Before they lay Korok's body in the grave, Jus apologizes to the others for

how this looks and explains his intent. He then searches for any signet,

symbols, or heraldry that may indicate where Korok was from; pocketing any

such item for later use.

Jus then follows the others to a place everyone feels comfortable to camp and

sets up his tent.

Gareth says "I can see that this is not going to be easy. We need to work

together or more of us may die."

.....

David says: I'm back.

John says: Sorry for the 'late' response. The turn didn't arrive in my mailbox until this

morning.

Hope my character's frankness in the last turn does not lead to a party

breakup. My intent is not to create such a scenario; just to portray the

character's discomfort with the, and his, situation.

Jerry says: Sorry for the late turn. It's been a tiring, busy few days. We're giving Standardized Tests to the kids and it's the end of the 9 week grading period and I'm averaging grades this week.

I've sent Tom's new character to JK for approval and should receive the go ahead on it soon.

I should receive your turns later today I hope.

Jerry

..................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 37

Nonam takes the coin and thong in the hopes that one day he will be able to return it to Korok's clan.

Once camp is made he volunteers for 3rd watch, and will memorize spells the next morning.

Gareth sits down at the camp and eats. "I'll take first watch.". He gets up

and looks for a spot where it would be hard to sneak up behind him, places his

sword in his lap and his shield at his side.

Jus volunteers to keep first watch and offers Nonam the use of the tent.

"I have heard that it is important for your profession to get good

sleep. If it would help keep you from being interrupted, please feel

free to use the tent."

Jus tries to remember if he has heard of the Q'ulada of clan Kaplag, and

asks the others if they have any such information.

A figure wearing a forest-color cloak approaches the bottom of the hill, leading a barded horse. A slight figure, you can only figure it is a woman, and when the voice calls out, your guess is right.

"Greetings to the camp. Might a traveler partake of your fire."

There is an accent, though you can not place it. As she finishes, she drops her hood, revealing a head of bright blonde hair, and incredibly intense blue eyes (Know who Rick Dees is? those type of blue eyes, ones that seem to jump out at you). Her cloak comes open, (Jerry says, "What!") and you can see she wears a scimitar at her hip.

She notices that the party is unusually somber for adventurers. There is a pile of freshly dug dirt a little ways off.

.....................

John says: Hmmm. The last and this turn seem to demonstrate one of the

disadvantages of e-mail campaigns. The actions of the individuals don't

mesh seamlessly. i.e. If others want to go to an inn instead of camp, or

the fact both Nonam and Jus wanted to search the body. I guess we just

have to be forgiving with the storyline.

Jerry says: Hmmm. The last turn seems to demonstrate one of the disadvantages of a human DM. He makes mistakes. Sorry John.

See ya'll tomorrow.

...................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 38

The woman waits for a reply, noticing freshly dug dirt.

Gareth stands up with sword held in a ready but non-threatening position (as he

had it in his lap) and watches intently. He tries to determine her race. When

he is sure there is no danger he sheaths his sword.

Nonam stands and whispers to Jus, "She carries one of those curved, heavy bladed swords which I have seen only once before... in the hands of our departed friend."

And then he speaks to the woman, "Greetings traveler. I am Nonam Firstorlast and [he points at Gareth and Jus] these are my companions Gareth the Mighty, and Jus the Tripper of Traps [he grins at Jus as he says this]. I welcome you to our fire." He motions to the fire and continues, "You have a most unusual accent. I recall having heard it before, but I can't place it. So why don't you warm your feet by the fire, have a little food, and tell us about yourself, your homeland, and your travels." Then he mutters to himself, "Perhaps this will take our minds off our own disagreeable day."

Jus stands and bows deeply. "Greetings, fair beauty. Travelers are

always welcome. The company of another good sword would be invaluable at

the moment."

After a moment of silence, Jus speaks again, "Forgive us our manners, for today has

been a dark day."

........................

Tom says:>>"Her cloak comes open, (Jerry says, "What!") and you can see she wears a scimitar at her hip. "What was the 'What?' for?

Jerry says: I was imagining a pretty blonde's cloak coming open...<EG>

John says: BTW: I've noticed the address you use is incorrect. Mayhap this is responsible

for some of the problems that have occurred in the past. Haven't had any

problems lately, just FYI.

Jerry says: Everyone update John's work email address please.

Jerry: What? No dumb blonde jokes? I bet you're all writing them down waiting to see how well she can wield that sword before you start in on her, right? Or are you feeling sympathy toward Tom and antipathy toward me for killing him? I seeee....

See yall tomorrow.

.................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 39

Frowing a bit, she leads her mount up. As she moves up the hill, she asks. "What has brought on such a glumness to your group. Today has been a beautiful day. I have traveled for many days, and am only hours behind the one I seek. Perhaps you have seen him."

Nonam sits back down by the fire to conserve his strength, and he motions for the others to join him. He waits to hear what the woman says, but as she speaks he studies her intently.

Gareth retakes his position and watches closely.

Jus volunteers, "As you have been told, my name is Jus. I hope 'Tripper of

Traps', as goldfingers named me, is not long my moniker. I am... an elvin

fighter, from a city many stories away."

Jus picks up a stick and plays with it while he continues, "My family is

relatively small, but the 14 of us remaining are very close." Jus lets out a

melodic laugh at some fond memory, "One of my brothers is about as

muscle-bound as you, Gareth -- though we would say he has a bit less brains.

Still, he lead my brothers and I in enforcing the city peace -- an unusually

high number of drunkards and troublemakers spend a day or two in the city

before moving on. Oh, I should apologize before I inevitably offend any of you

during our time together; based on my experience, there was no such thing as a

civilized human. I am glad my fortunes have brought me to you exceptions. I

was even more pleased to see one with forest blood join our group." Jus

quickly falls silent after realizing what he just said.

After a few uncomfortable minutes, Jus whispers, "This is the first party I

have adventured with, and I have already experienced more than I expected."

With a little more strength, Jus quietly states, "My adventuring brothers told

elaborate stories of battle, but the death of comrades was never mentioned.

The enemies, creatures, or unholy beings were always the ones banished. And

justly! To have this tragedy occur so early in our days together, was too...

it was not...." Shaking his head he mumbles, "This should not have happened."

Jus begins slowly breaking the stick into ever smaller pieces; tossing them

into the fire to watch them quickly turn to ashes, and rise into the heavens

riding an unfelt breeze.

----

Tom says: What's the difference between a blonde and a 747...What do they have in common?

Jerry says: I give up. What's the difference?

.......................

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 40

Listening to Jus, the lady takes in everything she has seen, comprehension shinning on her face.

"I see. You have lost a comrade." Looking at the mound, she has a slight look of disgust. "I recall your barbaric ways. Entering a body in the ground." Shaking her head, she releases her mount's reins, and approaches the fire. "Ah, but forgive my rudeness, I mean not to cause you anymore grief. It is only, my people believe that the spirit of the dead are bound to the body until it is dust, or ash. We burn our dead to speed the spirit's journey to the underworld. And there are the more secular reasons for this. Scavengers, spirits, and spirit-mages, all can desecrate the body, which causes the spirit of the dead to be bound to the mortal world indefinitely."

Jus quietly listens to the others. His thoughts are distracted as he feels for

this newcomer; awaiting the inevitable when she discovers the sad fate of

Korok.

Nonam looks questioningly at Jus then turns to the woman. "I'm sorry... I didn't catch your name. Anyway as far as our day... we were hired to investigate the ruins of an dead wizard's tower. There were the three of us and a dwarven cleric. We set out from town this morning. About halfway to the tower we met a pretentious noble that was masquerading as a mage who was also going to the tower to investigate the tower so we let him join us. Once we made it to the tower the dwarf and the mage ran off to look for god knows what. That is the first thing that went wrong. Just as they were leaving, however, a brave and noble half-orc, Korok of the Qulada of clan Kaplag came over the hill from the opposite direction. We quickly made friends with this Korok, and he replaced our other companions. Anyway we went down a tunnel we found at the center of the ruins. Once down there a giant invisible scorpion monster attacked us. It became visible after attacking this Korok I was telling you about. We immediately unleashed a torrent of fury upon the beast and sent it back to whatever hell it came from... but not before it injected the brave half-orc with its deadly venom. He died before our very eyes, and we have only just now finished burying him there." Nonam points to the grave. "That traveler is why were are so glum."

Nonam looks thoughtful for a moment. "You know Korok carried a sword much like the one you wear. I hope he is not the companion you were seeking." After noticing that he has struck a nerve, Nonam holds up the pendant Korok was wearing. "He was wearing this. We thought to return it to his clan, but, if you were his friend, perhaps you should take it." Nonam holds the coin out to the woman.

-----------------------------

JK says: Using my foreknowledge of Tom's character to speed this up & to keep John from being the only one making all the long speeches ;)

John says: ... then there was evening; then morning; then we all woke up refreshed,

alive, and ready to kill the dragons ...

Jerry says: That would be nice. Although what did the dragons do that deserves death?

Tom says: Differences: Not everyone has been in a 747.

Similarities: Both have a black box.

You asked for it (the Joke and the Answer :) )

Jerry says: You are hereby sentenced to 5 days of Sunday School and church with Tim. Tim, he's all yours!

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 41

A look of sadness comes across Chala's face as Nonam tells his tale. She

takes the coin, and puts it on a thong around her neck with a nearly

identical one. She stands. "Will you help me send Korok on his way? He

deserves to be sent on his way to the spirit world in the proper way, not

to remain here bound to the earth."

Pausing for a second, she says, "And he was more than a friend. He was my

brother..and more."

Jus helps build a pyre for Korok and exhume his body for the death rite.

Nonam collapses from exhaustion and sleeps by the fire.

After the death rites are completed, everyone takes a watch and sleeps for the night. You awaken refreshed in the morning having healed 1 hit point overnight.

---------------------------------

John says: Once upon a time, a blonde became so sick of hearing blonde jokes that she

>had her hair cut and dyed brown.

>

>A few days later, as she was out driving around the countryside, she

>stopped her car to let a flock of sheep pass. Admiring the cute woolly

>creatures, she said to the shepherd, "If I can guess how many sheep you

>have, can I take one?" The shepherd, always the gentleman, said, "Sure!"

>

>The blonde thought for a moment and, for no discernible reason, said,

>"352." This being the correct number, the shepherd was, understandably,

>totally amazed, and exclaimed, "You're right! O.K., I'll keep to my end of

>the deal. Take your pick of my flock."

>

>The blonde carefully considered the entire flock and finally picked the

>one that was by far cuter and more playful than any of the others.

>

>When she was done, the shepherd turned to her and said, "O.K., now I have

>a proposition for you. If I can guess your true hair color, can I have my

>dog back?"

Jerry says: And there was evening and there was morning of the second day.

Jerry says: I'm working very hard this week on typing in the articles for the New Campaign Folder containing color maps. It looks to be about 100 pages long or so.

Please change your mailing list for Tim.

My whole mailing list follows for you to cut and paste:

Jerry says: JK would you prepare and send out rules for individual experience points please? And briefly explain Hero Points and how they work? Thanks.

Now that we have exited the dungeon and reached a point of reflection, I can hand out some experience.

Story Bonus Experience for all original characters: 500XP

Combat Experience: 650 / 4 = 163XP each for all original characters.

Hero Points: Noman gets 1 for standing over Korok's body while fighting.

Any more? Feel free to ask for them.

Since this is kinda late in the day, we'll say this turn is due Tomorrow. However, I'll check my email tonight and see if we can run a turn or not.

---------------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 42

(Well I thought we were done for the night....that's what I get for thinking...

Chala takes the ornate scimitar of Korok's explaining that it is an

heirloom, and that she, as the only of the family in the area, that she

shall carry it until she returns hom to tell of Korok's death.

After Korok's body is placed on the pyre, she sprinkles a pinch of earth

from a pouch on his body, follwed by a bit of water from a vial. THen she

kneels, and breaths a breath on his face. Then, she takes a torch, lights

the pyre.

"Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. All the elements together we are, and thus

we return to the Mother, and our Spirits go to her, and to the :Land of the

Dead."

She stands there for a while, watching as Korok's spirit is sent to its

journy.

She stays there the rest of the night, keeping watch on the firte until all

that is left is the ashes.

---------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 43

Jus awakes early, well rested. While everyone waits for Nonam to finish

preparing for the day, Jus packs his tent and belongings. He speaks

quietly with Chal, letting her know if she needs anything further or any

help contacting others, please let him know.

"I would join you, if you will have me. I have no reason to return to my

home, though one day I will have to. I wish to see the world, as my

brother did. I will give you my pledge of Companionship, which to us is a

pledge nearly as stronge as on of family."

"Hey guys!", says Jus, "Time to see what was in the lower regions of

that tower. We certainly cannot turn away now, with the sacrifice our

companion has made."

Gareth wakes up refreshed and ready for action. He eats, packs up, and waits

for everyone to get up and he says "Lets go!" and heads for the stairs.

Jus leads the others into the depths of the tower, pointing out the

location of the trap.

The party descends the stairs, explaining the details of the circumstances of Korok's death as they pass by the relevant places. There is a 10' landing at the bottom of the stairs, then the block of stone now back in the wall at the 20' point, and the pressure plate is at the 30' point. You are standing in front of this now. This pressure plate covers the entire 10' square of hallway. 20' past it is a chamber beyond.

-------------------------

John says: To DDavid: Hope I bring back fond memories with the "Hey guys!" (i.e.

Togmahon).

David says: ......Gareth dove under the spider thing to get his sword to continue the fight with

only a daggar to fight with. He even grabbed it when it was burning hot. That

should be worth something.

Jerry says: I agree. Hmm...Usually a heroic action in the past has involved the risking of yourself for others type of thing, however you could stretch it to say that you were doing this to try to save the party since you realized that this is quite a small group. Ok, I'll give one this time. Normally, I would give XP for this only. Job well done David.

Tom says: Two blondes were walking through the forest, when they came across some

tracks. The first blond says "I kknow what type of tracks these are.

They're bear tracks."

The other blonde shakes her head. "NO, those are deer tracks."

They begin to argue. "Bear Tracks! Deer Tracks!"

They continue to argue. A few minutes go by, and the two blondes are hit

by the train, ending the argument.

Jerry says: Tom, I need a list of spells memorized. I would highly suggest that you move some Ability Scores around and up your Wisdom score to an 17 or 18 because of the bonus spells you receive. (Check under Wisdom in the front of the PHB2.) According to house rules, you may memorize spells outside of your allowed areas if you can provide your god with why you need them. Since this group has no Cleric of any kind, I would allow you to carry CLWounds. The party needs you to carry around 2 CLW's plus one of something else. This is just a suggestion, of course.

Jerry says: Chala receives 200 xp for her exceptional entrance.

--------------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 43a

(Hmm....I thought we were at the opening...)

Before getting to the opening Gareth says "I wonder if the flying creature that

was invisible is the same creature that got sucked into that pentigram? They

were both small."

Chala informs the party "I am Khdack. I speak to the Mother, and She

speaks to me. I am Her voice, and she graces me with the Kimring,

abilities that not even a mage can copy, for the abilties are of the Mother

herself, and not I."

Underground, she listens to the tale of the day earlier, and looks at the

spot that is the pressure plate, then smiles. She stands up. "Follow me."

She goes upstairs, and looks about, and looks for a sizable piece of the

ruined tower. She finds one she thinks will work.

"If we move a large piece of this down, and place it between the wall and

the slab, it may close, but we will still have a way out."

Jus says, "Well, 10' is an easy jump. I say we take turns jumping the

trap. If anyone triggers it, the others run to the other side join

them." If everyone is in agreement, Jus volunteers to be the first one

to go and, taking a running start, jumps over the trap.

Jus easily hops over the trap making the jump by at least two feet.

After approaching the stone block, Gareth begins his careful advancement procedure again. He moves over the trap by hopping, jumping, etc. to prevent tripping it.

Gareth also makes a perfect jump easily clearing the 10 feet trigger stone and begins again to advance

carefully. He says "This time lets be more careful! People get killed when we

get careless." and continues down the hall toward the open area.

Nonam's set to explore. He isn't too eager to get beat on again, so he hangs around at the rear.

-----------------

Tom says: Is that a interesting way to say I am a Druid?

Jerry says: I love it!!!

JK: I'll send out the stuff you asked about soon, but things are still hectic for me so it might be Sat or Sun

John says: How about Jus' exceptional empathy for the state of Gareth's concern for

him. Jus was willing to give up the excitement of exploring the

remainder of the tower to ease the burden on Gareth's mind. Instead he

told Nonam the scroll should be used to move the stone so they could

>join the rest of the party. ;-)

Jerry says nothing.

Jerry says: Sorry about the long delay. I was trying to configure my modem to the Windows 95 to play Civilization online and goofed something up. The result is that I'm logging on at 33,??? rather than 28,000 BPS and have the 56,??? upgrade ordered. The Sportster modem people were very good with their tech help. The most friendly I've ever encountered. They actually called back the next day, (today) after we got it fixed (yesterday late) to see if everything was still running. They also conferred with AOL about my problem to see that their techs added the scenario to their database. Very Nice.

By Standard rules, only Priests receive bonus spells, and that is why her

Wis is low. The other reason is because most of her abilities are at a

minimums (Dex is high so she is harder to hit. I can move one point from

CON to WIS and 1 point from INT to WIS, giving her two extra 1st level

spells.

To what spells she has memorize, I shall go with 2 Cure Light Wounds, 1

Faerie Fire. (The healing sphere one of the accessible spheres for

druids.)

Included is a new character sheet.

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 44

Chala will wait to see if any will heed her suggestion, even though it

appears as if two members have already jumped across the plate.

Gareth advances battle ready.

Jus walks beside Gareth, looking around for anything interesting.

The hallway opens into a 30' square chamber. Lying in the middle of this dust covered floor are two dead goblins, their crude spears still clutched in their hands. At the far end of the chamber, a statue of a horned bipedal creature stands in a shallow alcove. The statue points toward you with one cruel finger, and its stony visage bears a menacing grin. The chamber has four doors, two on the right and two on the left. The closest doors on either side hang open on their hinges.

Before Nonam jumps across the trapped area, he gets down on his hands and knees in front of the plate. He checks to see if it is still depressed or if it looks like it could go off again. With his great knowledge of traps, he determines for certain....that he has no idea. Then nodding to himself he gets back up and jumps... (he gets a running start first of course)....and lands short by an inch.

With a click and the sound of a spring going off, the party tenses....

and nothing happens. (hehe)

Jerry says: JK is going out of town until Sat or so to present a paper at a conference that he wrote. We wish him good luck.

Jerry says: JK also just moved into a new house, so congratulations JK.

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 45

Chala shakes her head, waiting a few seconds to see if the slab will begin

to close.

Gareth says to Chala. "You have time. Come across. We can open it again." then

looking at Nonam "Can't we?"

Nonam says, "Open What?" and points at the open corridor behind them.

(Everyone did scroll down and see the rest of my clever turn, or were you not clever?)

Noticing the hesitation in Chala's mannerisms Gareth says "This is how Korok

died. We got separated. Hurry!"

Gareth glares at Nonam but says nothing. He waits for Chala and whispers "We

tried large rocks and all kinds of debris and it didn't help. It appears the

trap is no longer working. Better to be safe."

As Jus watches the stone close and Chala has joined the rest, he says,

"Well, that was a good idea, Kuhdak. I guess its too late now to do

anything about it..."

Nonam says, "But Jus, you're having visions again....the corridor is open and as you can see Chala has not joined us yet. Go fig, huh?"

Jus asks Chala, "How do you pronounce your name again? Kuhdak, Kuhdaak,

Kaadaak?"

"Well, Gareth... ", starts Jus, "Left, right, or the statue? I say lets

>take a look at the statue first"

Nonam says, "Well if you want to join us step across. The trap doesn't seem to be working right now."

----------

Tom says: Got a suggestion all. We might want to talk about thinks before we leap,

literally. Two people take a leap before even conferring with everyone

else before they get any more information about the trap, not a smart way

to go...that just a suggestion. I know that there are times when we wont

be able to confer about what is going on, like in a fight, or when fleeing,

but when we are trying to figure something out, wouldn't it be smart to try

to get ideas before jumping?

Jerry says: Anytime you guys feel you need to open up the game to email each other before a turn, for now I'll say go ahead. Just send me a copy. Tom, I understand where you are coming from...the group never actually ever said, "Sure you can join. Come on," or something. Perhaps Nonam took care of that this turn?

I'm finished with all the typing for the Campaign Folder. I still like inking in the Silver Eel Tavern, the one tavern I'm including because of it's importance in any Lankhmarian adventure and preparing it for the folder. After that, I need to prepare the districts of Plateau City and Double check all the locations to see that everything is properly labeled. Then I'm waiting for Scott to run off several more maps in color such as Windhorn Hamlet and Aisildur and then I'll be done. If all goes according to plan, I'll be finished with my part tomorrow or Friday, and should receive the color maps from Scott at the gaming session on Sunday. Then next week, I'll work on assembling the folders and perhaps by next weekend I'll have them in the mail.

I've spent approximately $20 on these folders in their entirety running copies, etc. Scott has donated at least that much to us out of the kindness of his heart. If everyone could see fit to send from $5 to $10 to help cover expenses it would be appreciated. If you can't, I'll understand. If you want to wait until you receive the Campaign Folder, that's cool. If you don't feel you can't help, let me know and I won't mention it anymore.

------------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 46

Chala will do her best to leap across the plate, just in case the trap just

didn't spring.

"Chala is my name. Khdack is my title, like your Priest."

After everyone is together Gareth begins a careful advance down the corridor

looking as he goes.

Jus cautiously approaches the goblins; looking up, down, and around for

traps. When he reaches the goblins, he crouches down and examines at

their bodies (touching as little as possible). He tries to determine how

they died, and from what direction their death blows came.

Jus then looks to the open doors on either side and sees if he can see

anything from his current position.

Gareth looks around the chamber battle ready looking for doors, traps etc.

(Since there was some confusion about me sending a description of the first chamber and I'm playing Nonam till JK gets back, I"ll do two....two....things at once.)

Nonam watches Chala easily leap over the pit and approach the party in the chamber. He looks around and coughed at the dust everyone is stirring up. The chamber he noticed was 30' square. Lying in the middle of the floor was two goblins being examined by Jus who was being careful not to touch them. Elves were always scared of dead stuff. He noticed that they still held their crude spears clutched in their hands. At the far end of the chamber, Nonam sees a statue of a horned bipedal type of creature in a shallow alcove. He shivers as the statue seems to point directly at him with one cruel finger, as its stony visage gazes out at the room, or is it the party? The chamber he notices in passing has four doors, two on the left wall and two on the right. The first door on each side hangs open on their hinges.

Nonam shakes his head and says, "Choices, choices. This place looks like it might be another trap. Ya know the kind where the doors close, the block moves and the statue spews poison gas and kills the goblins kind of trap? A mage seldom protects his lair with only one trap. I wouldn't.

---------

Tom says: I know, but it is still good practice to get ideas before one just does

something, it tends to keep you alive longer. ;)

Jerry says: Yes, living is a good thing.

Jerry says: A little paranoia is also a good thing....hmm?

John says: Hey everyone! Guess what I learned today.... There is a neat, thin

column to the right of the messages which sometimes indicates there is

more text to read. And when you press the nifty down arrow, new text

magically appears!!! WOW! Technology sure is cool (and boy do I feel

dumb).

-------------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 47

Chala draws one of her weapons, just to be ready. She looks around the

room, especially at the statue, to see if she recognizes what (or who) the

statue is of.

The statue is 7' tall. It is a non-descript human dressed as a guard.

She will also ask Jus how the goblins died, if he is able to tell.

Learning all he could from the bodies, Jus, announces that the goblins have stinger marks on their necks like the bodies outside and Korok had.

He then goes to the open door on the left and looks inside.

This room which is 30'wide and 20' deep with the left wall collapsed, leaving little more than a pile of rubble in its place. The corpses of two goblins lie sprawled on the debris, spears jutting out of their backs.

Nonam calls out, "Gareth - Jus, be careful standing where you are. It is likely that those two goblins sprang some type of trap."

Then he looks to Chala, "Well what do you think we should investigate first?... Personally I would like to look at the statue."

Nonam begins to head cautiously and slowly toward the statue. He is looking at it and the floor carefully as he advances and is looking specifically for any holes or moveable joints in the statue or discolored or

otherwise abnormal floor tiles.

Nonam notices nothing that looks like a trap on the floor or the statue.

(DM says: "@#$%&!")

Then Nonam notices a hairline crack that extends around the neck of the statue.

Gareth moves to the door on the right and looks in. If nothing he moves

clockwise around the room examining everything he comes to without

entering.

The room on the right looks to be a 20' square room which has two collapsed walls dividing it in half diagonally. Loose earth filters in through the ceiling and nothing but heaps of rock and rubble remain.

-------------------------------

JK says: Jerry wrote <<JK is going out of town until Sat or so to present a paper at a conference that he wrote>> I wrote a conference??? -just giving you a hard time

The conference went well and more importantly my paper was received well. Though it was hardly a big deal... more like a degree requirement.

Tom says: Or, if you use Microsoft's e-mail, it has a scroll indicator on the

side. like you said, Technology, ain't neat.

Jerry says: Glad you're back JK and David.

See yall tomorrow.

---------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 48

Frowning, Chala says "I think we should check out the statue."

Nonam points out the crack around the statue's neck to anyone who seems interested, "There's a hairline fissure running about the statue's neck. It looks... strange."

Nonam continues to advance cautiously toward the statue. Once there he will try to determine if the crack at the neck is made in such a way to allow the head to swivel (meaning relatively flat around the neck------). Or if it simply appears to be a crack from age (meaning eratic ~~~).

Jus says, "It looks like the two goblins in here were killed by their

compatriots. Not much to see otherwise."

Jus then starts to walk to the other door on his side. Seeing Nonam carefully

examining the statue's neck, he stops and waits to hear what Nonam has found.

Gareth continues to look around being ready for attack. (We didn't hear from David today.)

-------------------

JK says: Is the statue of a "horned bipedal creature" as described in turn 46 or of a "non-descript human dressed as a guard." as described in turn 47.

Maybe a viking? Does it carry weapons? if so what kind? a shield? is it male or female? Just what does the statue look like?

A "nondescript human" :(

Jerry says: You have a point. Let's go with a horned bipedal creature pointing at you with one cruel finger and a stony visage bearing a menacing grin. Sorry about that last description. Geez I can't get away with anything...

----------------------

A Wizard's Fate: 49

Nonam continues to try to determine if the crack is due to age or if it looks like it is made in a way which would allow the head to turn. He is careful not to touch it. He finally satisfies himself that the crack is a perfectly flat one and could allow the head to turn.

Gareth continues searching the area opening the second door on the right. The room is 20' across and 25' deep. It probably used to be 30' deep but the back wall has collapsed. Lying on the floor is a dead goblin. Several rats are gnawing at the corpse, while a few others frantically scour the debris-strewn corners for edibles. Partially devoured rats and old rat bones litter the floor. The rats scurry into hiding with the opening of the door.

Chala will watch the statue warily while Nonam studies the statue, again

wondering if the statue is anything she recognizes (Religion proficiency). It looks like a demon of some kind from the Abyss or some such place. (Sorry Tom. I didn't catch your intention last turn.)

Jus waits to see the result of Nonam's examinations with the statue.

------------------------

John says: Been laid up sick. Unable to respond earlier.

Jerry says: No problem, John. I knew that if it wasn't an email problem that something was up.

Tom says: Must be AOL, cause I haven't received anything saying that mail wasn't

received.

Jerry says: I did a good thing today. I decided not to go to the U2 concert. I know it would be fantastic and a lifetime experience, but at 400 bucks a shot and needing two tickets, I couldn't justify it. Of course I could have "wimped out" and bought a seat farther back for a cheaper price, but if you can't see the faces, what's different than the video when it comes out? Or the live CD for that matter? Anthony and Erin of the local group are going and he is making fun of me only being willing to sit up close. Everyone please tell me I did the right thing. Thanks. Besides Yes has a new album coming out this summer and should tour.

Jerry says: Please remove Scott Carpenter from your mailing string. Scott (David's brother) is moving back to Wichita Falls for awhile since his chaplaincy is completed in Houston. He's gonna stay here while he searches for a job to do him till he's accepted into med school. He said to thank everyone for letting him read the turns.

Jerry says: We all understand when someone gets sick, or real busy. We all do. When a turn or two is missed and we don't hear from you, first I think to check that I got any turn you sent, because that does happen. Second, I begin to think that you are sick or extremely busy and move ahead. No problem. I'll probably call, though, if I don't hear from you for 3 or more days just to see if you're ok. :) Remember, if anyone ever needs to take off for a week or so, just to let us know. So far, everyone has been very dependable and loyal.

See ya'll tomorrow.

--------------------------

A Wizard's Fate: Turn 50

Gareth enters the room and looks above the door for tricks and traps. Seeing nothing then moves to the goblin and tries to see what killed it. He notices the tale-tale sting mark on the neck of the goblin. He searches the rubble for anything. Almost immediately he finds a torn sack containing 19gp, 25sp, 32cp, a tinderbox, three silver bracelets, a gold brooch set with semiprecious stones, a gold drinking goblet, a sling, four sling bullets, a sheathed short sword, three daggers, a battered helmet, and a brass milk dish with the name "Zotzpox" painted on it in large black letters. (Woohoo!)

Noticing Nonom's possible intentions, Chala will speak up "Be wary Nonam,

the statue is of a Demon of some sort. Who knows what touching it may do.

It may be better for me, as a , to touch it first, in case some foul magic

is released. I am more resistant than most to magics."

Nonam declares, "It appears that the statue is built in such a way as to allow the head to swivel." Then he looks for similar cracks that would allow the arms and legs to move while being careful not to touch the statue. He finds none.

Nonam looks the statue over one more time and notices that the statue's feet are carved so that they are part of a base that keeps the statue balanced and upright.

While Jus waits for Nonam to finish with the statue, he opens the last door --the second one on the left,

being careful for traps. The door opens showing hallway. The hallway goes to the right 10' (not counting the entrance square) and ends in a door. It also goes straight ahead (counting the entrance square) for 30' and turns right. At the end of the 30' facing you is a second door.
