At only 18, Andy Watts is one of England's most promising young players. He is currently playing for Reading Hockey Club, who last year won the Premier League by a considerable margin and finished runners up in the European Championships. This side is coached by Jon Copp, who, Andy says, along with David Wedd, has been his best coach. Andy started playing hockey aged nine and trained once a week with Marlow HC. Almost ten years later, he trains four times and eight hours a week.
His career so far has been showered with many successes and achievements but he says his greatest was captaining his country and playing for the England U21's.
In the future he plans to stay at Reading HC and work his way into the England senior side. He has recently received a call up in the training squad so is well on his way. He also plans to take a degree course at Bath University, but he has no idea about his future job prospects.
He is motivated by winning and playing for good sides. Andy says the greatest player he has played with is Jon Wyatt, former captain of England and GB, and the greatest player he has played against is Tun DeNoojer, the David Beckham of hockey.
