The "Hug" Episodes Memorial
Sit back, relax, and prepare to immerse yourself in the 'shippiness of a Mulder-Scully hug.......
The Pilot Episode
Agent Dana Scully, long haired and some what frumpy suited strips down to her skivies for a bath. She notices three small marks on her lower back. Panicking, and in nothing but a red dressing gown, she runs to the hotel room of her new parter, Agent Fox Mulder. Strangley uninhibited, she drops her robe to show the marks. Mulder takes an extended period of time to complete his examination. But, alas, they are just mosquito bites. Relieved, the two agents, virtual strangers, embrace for the first time ever.
I'm sure that most 'philes would agree.. Scully's strip show in The Pilot seems so very out of character when you look back on it. According to what I've heard, this scene had two purposes:
- To entice the male viewer
- To demonstrate the lack of sexual tension between the dynamic duo
Irresistable
Mulder angst! Mulder angst! This was a stressful episode for Mulder and viewer alike. Scully is seconds away from becoming fetisist (sp) Donnie Pfaster's next victim. Mulder, being the keen one he is has tracked down Donnie...... he bursts through the door and saves Scully's life, as he does many times, and vice versa. Scully, overcome with emotional anguish and exhaustion clings to her partner, sobbing. Mulder comforts his partner as best he can, relieved to have found her alive.
I have to say that the "Thank god you are alive my dear partner!" hugs are the absolute bestest type. The emotion and the compassion between Mulder and Scully during these kinds of moments, (the most common type of moment to warrant a hug) is very touching.
Herrenvolk
Mulder's mother is dying. Scully is right there, ready to be supportive. He crys, unashamed on his partner's shoulder.
*sigh*
Terma
Scully is in front of those congressional bigwigs. She stands up to them. Go Scully! Suddenly, Mulder appears in the doorway. Scully and Mulder hug! In front of everyone! Mulder mutters something about having two arms... who cares, he's back, he's alive and that constitutes a hug!!!
Just another one of those "Thank god you are alive my dear partner!" hugs.....
Memento Mori
This episode is undoubtedly one of the most amazing episodes ever. Scully is in the hospital undergoing treatment for her cancer. Mulder, having discovered her doctor is evil, comes to stop her from undergoing treatment. He panicks when she isn't in her room. When he finds her, they engage in the 'shippiest moment to date. Tender forehead kisses, warm embraces....."The truth will save you Scully. I think it will save both of us."
I get all teary eyed just thinking about it....
Demons
Have to review this one- I'll get back 2 ya.
The End
If you've been to my Fowley is Evil site, you know how I feel about Diana Fowley. But, by the end of The End, Fowley is forgotten as Scully hugs Mulder in the burnt down office.
This hug has tormented my endlessly. Is it really a hug?? Mulder doesn't hug back. He just stands there! What's up with that?! Grrr...

Milagro
Scully is in the process of having her heart removed..... she survives, and Mulder sees her lying on the floor of his apartment, in a pool of blood. He leans over her. She opens her eyes. At first she is frightened, but the moment she realizes it is Mulder, she grabs on and clings to him for dear life, sobbing all the way.
This is arguably the most powerful hug ever seen on The X-Files. Just watch it, you'll see what I mean. When I can actually put it into words, I will
