A sash ranking system is used to test a students ability and to help them progress through the system. Seniority among
the students is determined by the highest ranking sash within the class.
Within our programme we try to provide a balanced syllabus which includes:
Self- defence - defence against common attacks such as headbutts, knees, grappling, etc.
Sparring - is taught in a fun and proggressive manner, with the emphaise on drills and controlled sparring
to build up confidence and technique.
Taolu - Traditional routines taught are from Hung Gar.
Modern routines include: Changquan & Nanquan 8, 16, 32 step routines. Intermediate & International Level
routines, also Fanzi, Drunken, Di Tang, Eagle, Mantis, Monkey, Tiger.
Weapons - Broadsword , Cudgel, Spear, Straight Sword, Rope Dart, Wolfs Teeth Mace, Monks Spade,
Pu Dao, Guan Dao, Emei Piercers, Shaozi Cudgel, 3 Section Staff, Double Broadsword, Double Hook Sword
Conditioning - Two person drill including qiao shou (bridge arms) and other conditioning sets.
Lion Dance - is taught to reinforce your stance work, agility and strength. Lion dance has traditionally
been played by wushu practioners because of the fitness required to play the lion.
You will be taught all parts including how to play the instruments.
Theory - You will receive handouts and explanation on subjects such as Yin & Yang, 5 Elements, Anatomy,
Vital points of the Body, Medial Line, Wu De, Chinese Culture, Martial Arts History, etc...
