Nope. I just didn't want to state that as a fait accompli lest someone take exception and get us off on a tangent re: how far gone we are. I figured I'd be less likely to encounter resistance by stating that we're heading in that direction. Lotta good it did. ;)

Not at all. Too often, when the USSC rules on "constitutionality" issues, they aren't weighing whether John Doe's rights have been violated, but rather, whether the particular violation of John Doe's rights is necessary and acceptable to achieve some compelling governmental interest. More often tan not, the ruling is that, yes, the governmental interests are indeed more important than the "constitutional rights" in question. Silly me, I've been under the impression that government's number one job is to protect the rights of the citizens.
