Well, out of town almost a week, and the list is alive with comment. John Wilde has succinctly put the court ruling in perspective, and Ken Van Cleeve has stated the correct course. This is a big victory for us. Not because the court didn't gut us like a fish (sort of). In their minds they did (I sure would have liked John Buttrick's opinion on the ruling, and the several criticisms they leveled implicitly at him and Rawls. But that won't be possible.). We won because now the court has defined "shall," and now it is time to ram "shall" down every orifice the government possesses.
Who has standing? After all, since every political party shall meet the 'minorly inconveinent but legitimate demands of the legislature' (so sayeth the court), and none of them do (nor is it possible to o so), it is time to see who first will squeal like a pig! Where does the SOS, or CRO's get off handing over voter registrations to political parties who aren't in compliance with the election law?! I though she took an oath to follow the law or something. Aren't those lists big money (for the taxpayers of course), not normally given away?
We always win, no matter what they do. Either they give us our freedom (fat chance), or the government exposes themselves for the worst sort of statist hypocrites they are. Keep providing the rope, and we can keep making them eat their words and squirm out of another fine mess of their own creation. In a publically educated society, whether the day will come when the government finally hangs itself is tragically uncertain.
