I work at 1 World Trade Center, 40th Floor.  I was 20 minutes late this
morning, arriving at 8:50am.  I exited the subway to security directing
people out of the smoke-filled lobby.  At first I thought some type of
chemical bomb had been set off.  Fromacross the street, I watched some of
the building's upper floors burning.  Suddenly, the top of 2 WTC exploded,
and from my vantage point, and that of thousands of others surrounding me,
it looked for an instant as though the tower was toppling on us.  Debris was
raining on us, some were hit, people were diving under vehicles for cover,
total bedlam.

I don't know if there are government tenants in the WTC, but I don't know of
any offhand.

Hearing of this morning's events at the WTC made me aware of my 
ignorance of the building's primary use.  Is it truly civilian 
business as the name would imply?  Or is it somehow 
government/military?  If the former, what would motivate this 
morning's actions?
