Barry,

My recollection is that it is this time of year that you always did your show on carrying and owning firearms. I believe it is time for you to do that show again and add to it a frank and open up the debate on the issue discussed below.

Your suggestion for a return to the armedsky marshals or some other program is insufficient. Why should we have to worry about whether government can protect us? Government has never shown a competent ability to protect us. All your suggestion is going to do is stop a flight when a "government approved" sky marshall can't be found.

The time has come for big bro to understand that the only way to protect the people is the people themselves. The laws prohibiting firearms on planes is patently unlawful anyway and has always been. It must go. We have just never had an arguable reason to really object to these illegal laws. Now we do and I believe you are going to discover that myself and others who think alike are going to become very vocal. We already are. And no I am not talking about the NRA. They couldn't argue their way out of a paper bag when it comes to understanding what it means to be free.

Nor, do I want to hear any crap about how terrorists and hijackers will also be able to take guns on planes. Because it is just that, crap. Understand one thing, the mind set of these guys is that taking a plane down is no longer sufficient. They will not "go to heaven" if they go into a situation where they know that there is a good possibility that they will be killed before they accomplish their objective. That would make their act suicide, not martyrdom and their beliefs condemn such acts.

So a prospective hijacker taking a gun onto the plane would become worthless. How many times do you think someone would get away with a hijacking attempt if several of the passengers carried firearms. None. All you would have is dead hijackers. And, yes, there may be instances where passenger's may get killed in an exchange. One thing is for sure, had there been armed passengers yesterday, there wouldn't have been a chance that there would be15,000 to 25,000 dead people.

Your comment about the bullets going through the hull were correct. But there are other concerns such as having to shoot straight down the isle. That would endangr the flight crew. They make a round in most of the common calibers called a Glaser. It is a high impact, fragmentation round that penetrates, but does not exit. It would not be an unreasonable regulation to only permit declared carried handguns that would be limited to Glasers.

Sure, the guy planning on hijacking is going to try and avoid declaring his gun or carrying the "correct ammo." That is solved by continuing the security screens and if he tries to carry a gun on without declaring it then the law can deal with that.

Yesterday proved that we can no longer trust the government to provide for our security. There can be no "balance" between freedom and security (the current sound bite catch phrase of the day). We must demand "Freedom over Security. If we surrender Freedom we will surely lose our Security." We have a society that is built upon rights of the individual, with those rights comes responsibility. One of those responsibilities is our own personal security. We cannot be secure if government improperly interferes in our rights, freedom, and liberty.

The government officials should do what they are doing, but at the same time, get out of the way of the American people. If we "revisit our freedom" (Thanks for nothing Brokaw), then we are lost and we might as well stop fooling ourselves and surrender to those who would see this nation destroyed.

g'day John Wilde
