Fellow Travelers,
In response to the question of how many more donations we need, the answer is 2,800 more, that would bring us up to where Mrs. Dunbar was a couple of weeks ago. I'm to embarrassed to tell you how much we have actually raised at this point, most of which has come from the personal contacts of the campaign staff. Don't expect a big ruckus without money to spend on reaching people.
Educating new Libertarians is not what this campaign is about. That is much better done with outreach meetings, personal contacts, and think tanks.
This campaign is about electing a Libertarian to office. To do this, we must THINK OUTSIDE THE IDEA BOX. This is an action phase. To act, we need muscle; muscle in the form of popular support, media support, and money. Media support "ain't happen'n" for a Libertarian. Popular support comes from money and grassroots efforts. Money in Tucson comes from donations, special events, and taxes. So let's try an exercise, think outside the idea box - think in the realm of action: how can we recruit more volunteers for grassroots efforts and fundraising; since Libertarian donations won't supply the money we need, where else should we go for it, and how do we get it; what are some low cost/free ways to reach the citizenry; how can we exploit a hostile media; what would be some good special event fundraisers?
The campaign has an action plan, and with the creative support of Libertarians in Tucson, we can augment that plan to achieve much more. Think outside the idea box. Think action. Let me know.
I would like to again thank all who have contributed to the campaign so far. Your support has been invaluable. Special thanks to Travis who allowed me to address my first half dozen TV viewers - some of whom were quite taken with me, if the telephone calls were any indication.
Travis, do send sound bites that you think would help keep me from "appearing more like a Republican".
Sincerely,
Jonathan
